Default Guillotine

This is going to sound ridicolous as the guillotine is like submissions 101, but what are ways to better set it up and to make it more efficient (choke faster, sink in deeper, be less escapable).

I have big arms and sometimes it feels like they interfere with the choke.

Are you levering your non-choking arm over the opponents shoulder?

(in guard) Are you moving your hips out from his body before you apply the pressure?

Both of those add a lot of power to the choke, and are all I can think of right off the bat... I don't know about big arms though, I'm kind of a skinny white kid

Guillotine is one of my favorites and all I can give you is a few tips Ive picked up.

1. If your opponent brings there head down, lowers it or anything like that while standing/on the knees and you have a good chance of wrapping their head up with your arm, GO FOR IT. You will feel if you dont have it in well enough, and if it fails, let them go and you havent lost anything.

2. Dont hold onto a guillotine if the person isnt tapping, with the hips as mentioned before and the pressure you are using with the arms the guillotine can be VERY tiring to perform, even if you are on your back. If you dont have it sunk, they wont need to tap, and now your tired as hell.

3. I'd give myself about 10-15 seconds to see if the person is going to tap, if they do youve sunk it in.

4. Some people may not go along with this, and im not sure but it may be illegal in sport grappling, if your not choking them, crank the neck, some people may not like neck cranks, but if your choking someone on the street its a viable tool. Wouldnt recommend it for just rolling or competition though.

5. If someone cranks your neck, TAP, not worth two days of a sore neck after.

6. You may have tried the standing guillotine, or on your knees or something, but having the person in your closed gaurd is best for performing this choke.

Umm cant really think of anything else. Hopefully you can get something good out of all of that.
