If they fought today, Sperry would destroy Rickson, 10 years ago it would be a different story

Rickson
Sperry
I've always wondered who was the better fighter out of these two...
Rickson has his legendary stats, but Mario's been ALOT more active as a fighter then Rickson has....
Mario has an impressive win over Royler Gracie, if I remember right, the fight lasted only 3 maybe four minutes...
But Rickson choked out funaki who for his time was a pretty impressive fighter...
As of right now I'd have to go with Sperry, he just seems more well rounded![]()
so what do you think
If they fought today, Sperry would destroy Rickson, 10 years ago it would be a different story
i would like to see sperry's fights, and more of rickson's stuff (especially that fight you mention). is here an way i can do so?
also, i consider rickson overall to be a greater fighter, though he is older now and is not training like he was in the day.
Sperry VS Royler
This is the Sperry VS Royler fight, sperry pretty much controls the whole fight to...
You can find a few more of Ricksons and Sperry fights here along with some more fights
If you scroll down the page you can see the Rickson VS Funaki match but every time I click on it it says the page is down, I'll try to post it up if the page ever opens![]()
well I am not sure, thinking more about it, weather you meant with a Gi or not???? With a Gi I pick Rickson, 16 years straight as the world BJJ champ, no, Sperry or anyone else couldnt beat him.
I think it's odd how people over look the fact that Royler weighs ~150 pounds and Sperry weighs ~210 (from sherdog.com). I'm not a gracie proponent, but that's a huge weight difference.
Oh yeah.. regarding Rickson vs Sperry, I would have to agree that back in the day I'd give it to Rickson, but nowadays I think Sperry would win since I'm not sure what Rickson is even doing now.![]()

That's true, Royler was ALOT lighter then Sperry was... But being heavier though doesn't really give the advantage though, more muscles need more oxygen

60 pounds is a HUGE difference in a sport jiu-jitsu match where both competitors are at the expert level of knowledge.

Anyway, in my eyes Sperry's alot like Kevin Randleman, if he's on then he's just awsome.. But if he's off then he's not so good

kevin randleman as a one dimension fighter?Originally Posted by Mako Victim
Anyways rickson would take him they both are aged and rickson taps out royler in less than 2 minutes
Why not??? He nearly knocked off Cro Crop's head with one hit, and damn near broke Fedors neck, and cracked Bas Rutten's nose in the first five minutes of there fight... he hasn't been doing shit lately on the ground lately.. So yeah, I'd say he's pretty much a one dimensional fighter now. if he'd stick with swinging instead of ground work he might be doing alot better...
i knew you were going to come up with his only highlights, im not saying he is a bad fighter only that, he didnt evolutionize as the other fighters in pride have been doing same with mark coleman and all of hammerhouse, they are all one dimensional thats why theyve been suffering of more losses due to this...there is no doubt, if kevin trains hard enough in both ground and striking he has a great potential in becoming hw champ or lhw
