![]() | Thanks for the reply omaplata...I drank some water before the tournament so I don't know. It was really odd.. I have never had this happen to me. I play basketball as well as jiu jitsu and I have never gotten cottonmouth due to being tired or anything. I consumed liquid as usual so nothing out of the ordinary. I actually had 2 matches but honestly sort of gave up on the 2nd one because the guy had the mount and was going for the ezekiel choke and I sort of gave up because my mouth was soo dry that it was almost unbearable. I think when I go back to class monday I'm going to ask some of my other classmates if any of them have ever encountered this.. too weird.. Also I have been training bjj for about 5 months and the guys I went up against have been training for a while. At the risk of sounding stupid I could tell because one guy had cauliflower ear and I know it takes some time for that to accumilate.. When warming up I was looking around for guy about my weight class and saw the guy I went up against and was like shit I hope I don't go up against someone like him that has been training bjj for a while ang sure enough it was him. haha... the other match i jumped guard, but couldn't work anything.. the other guy was digging his elbows into my inner thighs (which I am not used to because no people in my class do that).. Basically I was constantly trying to pull his elbows off my legs and keep my guard closed.. I am disappointed in my performance. O well it was my first tournament and next time I will just have to train harder.. I didn't train for jack shiz this tournament. I am at least open minded about my loss because now I can go back to class and work on some of the mistakes I might have made in the tournament. Thanks for your reply Oma !! Peace |

![]() ![]() | I'd put it down to nerves. Also, it was really, really hot in that room, so you could have been more dehydrated than you thought. It was so hot in there that I didn't even wait around to see the advanced men's divisions - I just had to get out of there!

![]() | YEA we all get nervous at tourneys, I havent been to one in a while, but its a great test of skill. Sometimes when its a small tourney, there isnt enough guys to make everyone evenly matched, so u have to fight more advanced guys. It happend to me before too, I would have won one of the matches if it wasnt for my goddamn Gi sleeves being too short so I couldnt finish the Ezekiel...if it was my normal GI I woulda had the guy. Far as holding your guard, if your legs are long, mine are, I can figure four people in my guard and hold them pretty good, but it limits attacks. One bad thing with that is, since my legs are long, I figure foured my instructor in my guard, thinking I got him now, now way out, but my figure-four was so tight that my ankle was sticking out and he reached down around my ankle, putting it between his bicept and forearm and cranked it upward as to break my ankle so I tapped...ridiculous |

6'3, But I watched Jacare do it to marcelo Garcia and tap him out with a kimura....you dont need to be all that tall if your opponent is much smaller...but the beauty of BJJ is that u can adopt all sorts of attacks based on your body type | |
