![]() ![]() | ok someone correct me if I am wrong (and I am sure you will) but PRIDE doesnt allow elbows like UFC does, yet you can stomp someones face in PRIDE while they are on the ground? sorry but I think I'd rather eat an elbow in any position than a heel while I am down . what if the intended target has his windpipe crushed? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Then thats just the way it works, honestly I'd rather fight someone knowing they wont elbow me but they can stomp me if they have the chance. (In a ring)... first of all if they ever really connect with a stomp its usually over. Yes a stomp will do more damage, by far, but your more likely to get hit with an elbow, far far far more likely... and elbows still hurt like a motherfucker, plus they cut people. If you have your windpipe crushed... that really sucks... but I mean.... if you punch someone in the throat... theres a real good chance your gonna crush their windpipe.... are we gona ban punches from MMA? Also with stomps you can see them coming and put your hands up over your head far better than punches... hands can protect the throat too.. Just different rules.. neither are better.

![]() ![]() | yeah but my point is, more power, easier to get your weight into a stomp, plus if the subject is prone, no where for the energy to be transferred because his back is against the canvas, sure an elbow cuts quicker, and against a prone target the same applies with repect to more damage. but to me a stop just seems more dangerous than an elbow in any situation. |

Now that may be different in a self-defense situation where I know that my life is on the line but I wouldn't do it in a fight in MMA.

![]() ![]() ![]() | I think you guys dont really understand the stomps.... do you know how hard it is to get a stomp in... generally stomps come when the person is lying on their back, keeping there legs up , and just waiting there, not allowing the person to attack them, and kicking them when they come close. Stomps are generally a jump, through the opponents leg, and trying to hit their head, very rarely do they hit. If you were on your back , and you had your legs up and you saw a guy , run jump and start to bring his foot down, you would have time to move your head, or at least get your hands up, its not as brutal as it seems. No one ever lies there while the guy stomps his face from the side or is standing really close to their head.

![]() ![]() | in the heat of a fight sometimes blows are given after a personal is KO'd, how many times have U seen someone follow a guy down to the mat raining down blows even though the opponent is out cold or close to it. this is the case where i see a stomp being dangerous, in that split second before the ref can intervene, not when a person is simply on their back and still able to engage in defense (albeit limitied) |

![]() ![]() ![]() | yes the stomp is dangerous than, but when people get knocked out/down its generally from the front, and they fall backwards, at least a little bit... by the time you run around to stomp them and thye havent moved the ref should have stopped it. Im not sure if you have seen TUF 1... but there is a particular match with southworth vs sincaid I belive, and southworth blasts sincaid about 3 times.. completely knocks him out, before he can even bend over to hit the guy while he is on the ground, John McCarthy slides in, and hits southworth (big guy), from the centre of the ring, to the point where he hits the cage... thats a pretty big distance, Big John got there real fast. Fighter safety is number one... sure there is a risk.. but... theres a risk that when you take a step you could trip and brake your neck, is it a risk your willing to take... if not... just watch and hope it never happens to someone else.

| Registered User | I think its a bit odd that they allow them in Pride. If you remember the fight with Wes Sims and Frank Mir, I think it was UFC 43 or 44, but Frank's face was really fucked up. He had a couple of huge welts around his eyes after the fight. Wes was also holding the fence while stomping. I guess he tried to break as many rules as possible. Thats okay, if I recall correctly, Frank ended up knocking him out the next time they fought. |
