I have mainly done my training through private lessons. There are of course many advantages of training that way for me as there is no place to get BJJ in my area. I fly to California and usually do a week or so of private lessons. From there fly home train or work the stuff for 6 mths then fly back. The privates offer percise teachings and step by step instruction. Sometimes if I have trouble with the move the instructor can spend more time teaching to say my body type. If I lived in Cali I don't think I would recommend training this way but every once in a while I am sure a private would tweek anyones game. The instructor I have trained with in still only a 2 or 3 strip purple as opposed to a black but it keeps the costs down.
