By the way, a reverse punch does work. Its called a right cross in boxing, and people get KO'd by them all the time. They can KO a person or be a nice setup for a takedown.

now youre floundering...mongolian wrestling is designed to kill and cripple which is against the rules of your sport (and MW isnt a sport)...thier throws on a mat will still stun you, but wont finish you on a mat i agree. however on a sidewalk they will split your skull....bjj to be polite SUCKS AT THROWS... however you tackle pretty well but football might be better for teaching tackles...and the single and double leg takedowns are wrestling...granted if you wake up in the middle of the night with an attacker in bed with you bjj would be a good place to start the fight from....but if walking down the street you better have some stand up skills and throws to augment your groundskills or the mongolian wrestler (or any other wrestler) might drop you on your head when you close on him. |

Now examine the path taken by the BJJ guy. He's sparred for about 2-5 years and has all his nerves working. He may not even have the build of a fighter, but his techniques allow him to defeat fighters of larger size. |

a person trained ONLY in muay thai, boxing, wrestling or any single art you can think of will get beat by bjj.Muay thai fighters will get taken down regardless of how "bad" bjj guys takedowns are just bc muay thai dose not teach takedown defense same with boxing or any other striking art in existance.wrestlers or judoka will get beat because because they dont have the sub defense or submission skills (yes judo has subs but not as refined as bjj unless you compare it to kosen judo) to compete with a bjj guy.Do you see the example im making?....people realized the above and said damn i gotta learn how to avoid these subs and takedowns.then they learned to apply subs and started using takedowns, you see its all about evolution.....the point of this post is the the ultimate ma is CROSS TRAINING. now adays you can take argubally the best grappler in the world pound 4 pound:Marcelo garcia and but him up against someone like chuck liddell and liddell will dominate easily, why because he has the superiour takedown defense and sub defense to deal with marcelo and the striking is obviously chucks, he would ko marcelo easily.Dose this mean bjj sucks? not by a long shot dose this mean that the above arts suck? not a chance....what rules everything is cross training you must be prepared for everything....and that ladies and gentleman is the ultimate in martial arts.

Or in Lumpinee stadium under thai rules... Or an old style no-rules one on one FMA fight like Floro Villabrille used to compete in...with sticks. Cam's dead on. Arenas have rules....rules are limitations. Arena's limit the number of techniques and tools you can apply...The UFC might be different if you could groin grab, gouge, or bite...or even kick and stomp a downed opponent's face. There are always equalizers... |
