Greetings,
My first time to post to the forum. I have done MA since 1972, almost exclusively stand-up styles. Now I am 46 years old and would like to do some private lessons for BJJ. What can I expect and am I getting a little over the hill for this type of MA? Thanks in advance |

to train in ma hell I was going to fight till i was 40 atleast, in my mind if you can stand and you've got a f***** pulse you're go to go for fighting so training is no biggie, I'd stay away from mma stables though and go to a bjj school that works more with "normal" people though to be safe, hell I'm a gimp and train anywhere from 2-3 hours a day just for "fun" whatever the hell that is so nevr doubt yourself or look back ,you'll love bjj I think

Also you may want to post who the instructor is allot of people on this forum know BJJ and the good people. Unfortunately, while I would not say McDojo, there are definatly people who should not teach BJJ

It's the stand up stuff that you may want to shy away from as you get older. Did you know that Chuck Norris started to really get heavily BJJ because his body couldn't do the jump spin kicks anymore. Chuck still trains with the Machados and he is 65 now.
BJJ will keep you young and if you get sucked in,..may change your life. I read something written by Matt Thornton that really amazed me. He said, that people always comment that they might start training an art better siuted for weaker older folks...like tai chi, aikido, or wing chun, when they get older. Matt's reply to this is..if the young buck can't get the stuff to work, what makes you think it will magically work for the old guy? There is no substitute for good healthy, athletic training.

Check out this link
http://www.bjj.org/academies/#MO And may I suggest the GracieBarra school listed. It is taught by Daniel"Montanha" Nycz De Lima who is a Black Belt directly under Carlos "Carlinhos" Gracie Jr. Gonna be very hard to find something better then that over there. |

Suyan Queiroz is a BJJ black belt under Renato Ferro. Before I started at my school I emailed twice and never heard anything from them. I ended up just going down and started the very next day. A week later I got an email from my teacher. He was just busy and it was the first time he had even seen my emails. Go down, check it out man.
