All these idoits carry on about how hard it is to pass the gaurd. This is so stupid because its so easy to see how to pass th=e gaurd. All you have to do is stand up! Yes I no it sounds hard but you just stand up and you are instanbtly out of the gaurd. Then you just can stomp the other guys face into the concrete.
This BJJ lesson was no charge.

lol i was wondering have you ever done that to anyone? (stood on their ancles) Just seems to me that u would have to grab them push them to the floor then step on them which would take alot of time when their focased on sweeping you down one way or another. And if you did seems like you would be sorta off ballance trying to stand on ancles.

OK then, just say they did sweep me somhow.
I would fall onto my back while grabbing one of there ankels under my arm. I wopuld put the guy into a world of pain with an ankel lock. In fact I reely dont understand why lots more peeple dont do this in MMA. Most of the time I see an ankel lock oppurtunity when I see a guy using the guard.

"I would put the guy into a world of pain with an ankle lock." How do you do that, whenever I put a guy n one they just sit there and wait till I get tired. Are you supposed to really twist the ankle hard or something like that.
BTW when you standup to pass the guard you have to push one of there legs down so you can get to the side mount, which involves pressing down hard on the knee while controlling the other leg. You obviously haven't rolled with a good BJJ player. |

Yes you have to twist the ankle reely hard.
I do Judo so I roll with some tuff guys. I dont think anyone has done BJJ but so what because it came from Judo in the first place.

RobinHood - It's not really that simple as you put it...."just stand up"! When your opponent is holding your gi lapel, he just comes up with you when you stand. It's obviously much easier to pass guard with no gi when you stand, but check out the fight between Fabiano Iha vs Daiju Takase in UFC 29 when Iha stood, Takase just held the guard, even when he was almost upside down. I'm not saying it's impossible to pass guard by standing up, but it makes it more difficult when your opponent's either holding your gi, or he/she has his/her arm around the back of your neck. If you do stand, keep a strong base (knees bent to a 45* angle - arm chair position), and "shake" your opponent up and down until his/her ankles unlock. Also, when this happens, your opponent can simply get back into a standing position if you don't drop back to the mat quickly as their ankles are unlocking from around you. This is the time to shoot the right knee through to pass, or reach under the opponents right hamstring (or left, whatever you choose), and throw their leg to pass and gain control.
Also, I try not to stand straight up, as I usually am suseptible to somekind of arm-bar by doing this. I'm no pro, just giving my advice. Take it easy. Ronnie. _____________________________ A straight arm's a broken arm - Master JPF |

Potland is near where I live Dan. Are you serous because I got the impresion you dont like me?
RockinRonnie thanks for your reply it was intyeresting. What about picking up the guy and slamming him back onto the mat? Doers this sometimes break the gaurd?

If you took the time to train Bjj you would see that a lot of the latter scenarios have been addressed. Standing up is a BJJ tactic. It is refered to as stacking. Sometimes it's a good start when passing the guard or grounding and pounding. However, stackers have been known to be choked out, ankle locked, swept, armbarred, kicked (Renzo), etc. Nothing is fool proof.
