Hey all,
Since searching came up with little answers, can anyone tell me which submission moves are legal (for tournaments, in Canada) in judo? mainly: guillotine choke? triangle choke? flying arm bar? rear naked choke as performed in bjj? knee bar? heel lock? I hope this is the right forum, thanks! |

hey man sup and welcome. All leg locks are banned in judo as are putting your hooks in or a body triangle, only armbars and chokes are legal but you gotta make sure your shoulders are not on the ground for more then 25 or u lose. Also you gotta watch out for the ipon throw..you land flat on ur back and u lose. Judo guys really dont focus on subs and its sorta rare to see alot of sub finishes most matches go to points or ippon, hope that helps.

yeah what the guy above me said...
most will end in Ippon, or go to points.. an ippon is where you are thrown in such a way they determine the other person should win because of the very nice throw... Judo well at least in Canada, doesnt focus on as much Newaza (groundwork) as it probably should. Because you were looking for the ground work things... I'll go out on a limb here and provide you with what I know about ground fighting grappling tournaments, (although they start standing)... this is what im getting from the competition my school is holding.. its open to international people if that makes any difference to the rules... No heel hooks, or blatant neck cranks... (your allowed to do chokes, just not try to damage the neck).. no finger or toe locks, umm... everything else is pretty good I think... thats for the mens and womens division... kids .. I dont think they are allowed to do any leg locks... ummm... thats like.. 10-under 16... I think under ten they arent allowed to do submissions in the tournaments.. its more of a positional thing. hope that helps out some.
