i really dont have to worry about people "picking" or choosing fights with me on the street because im huge i weight about 205-208lbs and im about 5'7 so im short but very stocky looking. When your attacked in the street it wil be by a predator (no not like in the movie u crazy people ) and he will pick on the guy who is very frail looking and the smallest who looks like a complete geek not the biggest muscle hunk guy because he knows to go for the easiest pick possible just like a lion in the wild will go for the slowest gazelle not the fastest. So i tend to base my training around developing my own style of fighting and competing and to beter myself as a person.Self defense for me comes last on my daily list.I live in a bad part of queens to just for the record and im still alive! praise be to shiva.

My view on the poll above is that if I'm in real danger I give up too many options by going to the ground. If I'm fighting on the ground it's a whole lot harder for me to turn around and run away from the situation or to take advantage of my surroundings. It would also make it harder to pick up whatever might be handy to help me out. Although that's my initial reaction it really depends on the situation though, you never know what can happen or what skill you might need.
