Default Cross training question

I've been focusing on a stand up style for about 2 1/2 years, and now I'd like to round out my abilities by cross training at a BJJ school. My concern is how I would balance my time. I've worked too hard to progress in my current style to start back sliding because I've bitten off more than I can chew. At the same time I'm very interested in learning about ground fighting techniques. I'd like to hear from some guys who practice MMA. How much time do you spend training a week, and how do you divide your time between stand up and grappling?

hey man maybe i can help a bit.At my gym we do no gi jiu jitsu/self defense/mixed martial arts on mon, on wed we do jiu jitsu with the gi on and on thrus we do shoot-box which is basically a western boxing/muay thai structure with some greco and freestyle wrestling. Each class is about 2 and a half hours long plus sparring is about 45 mins so in a weeks worth of time in the gym would be about almost 8 hours.....however i train at home on my days off from the gym (mostly at home now bc i dont have a job anymore) the best advice i can give you is to either stick with the style your in right now and keep working on that or you can quit your gym and look for an mma gym so you can practice stand up clinch and ground. The decision you make will depend on what you are willing to sacrifice.....o wait i thought of another idea you could ask around your gym if they would want grappling to be a part of their classes and get people to ask the owner if he could possibly get a grappler with experence to come in a few days a week or for seminars and teach you guys the ground game.Hope that helps
