Rorion strikes again!

I just found out that Rorion went and registered the Gracie name in Japan. Just like he did in the US. Aparently he and Rickson have been battling it out in the Japanese legal system over the right to use the name 'Gracie' for about two years.

There is nothing worse than to see a family split because of money. This happened when my uncle died several years ago.
My uncle was not a wealthy man, but had a small savings account and my aunt (my uncle never married and this was his sister) was blinded by her greed and had her daughter try every which way to convince her daughter, who was conservator of his estate to divide the estate in her favor.
It was a mess and the end result is that my Mom is estranged from the her best friend, her sister.
This is so stupid and it really wasn't all that much money involved. That's the idiotic basis for this ridiculous situation.

what does that mean exactly? he can't represent gracie jiu-jitsu? i don't understand how you can legally prohibit your brother from using his last name in any way he would want to. it's like if tito snagged the rights to the "jackson" name.

I think what Rorion is trying to do is register "Gracie Jiu Jitsu" as a title that cannot be used by Rickson. So Rickson could not call his business Gracie Jiu Jitsu. He could call it Rickson Jiu Jitsu though!

I would think Rorion would want the Gracie jiu-jitsu name to be with Rickson the way they talk about him.

First, as all know, I'm pretty close to Royce & Rorion.
2nd, it was a long time before everyone knew that in fact it was Carley that sued Rorion and Rorion counter filed and won big time. Bottom line in that deal was Carley drew first blood. Now, I don't know about this in Japan and until there is a lot more then what's on the board its my opinion that jumping to conclusions at this point in time may be a jump in the dark.

For those of us not in the know,...what happened between Rickson and Rorion? One minute Rickson is in Royce's corner at UFC, the next he is in Japan and Helio is on video talking about how Rickson's record is not accurate.

Was it just a split because Rickson did not want to teach at Rorion's school or something else?
