how does any of the branches of the U.S millitary train for hand to hand combat. Do they use similiar martial arts techniques or something different.

The US army are putting in place a program called Modern Army Combatives. It includes Gracie Jiu Jitsu, MMA / Muay Thi for stand up and Stick/ Baton work. It's a good comprehensive program.Originally Posted by StealthMode

you know the military tactics forum might be a better place for a military H2H question, than the Sports forums....otherwise ALL youre gonna hear is about the sports that leaked into H2H training![]()

i believe the military addresses the fact you and your opponent SHOULD be armed...and hostile bad guys are on the way...also the military stresses losing means your life, not your title. torture and death await the soldier who loses a fight. "Better luck next time" with a slap on the back and a rule argument await the ring guy...big fucking difference...
In Basic Training we are only tought (Ground Fighting Tactics) GFT we are tought tiers 1-3 and that is all. In all there are something like 8 I think. Now when you get to your unit you are tought and or learn from others ( Useualy Sgts) how to fight. They will basicly tell you the fastest way to kill a man if you end up in hand to hand. For the most part ther is no art to it. It is just a mixing of anything and everything, taking out the crap that is useless and only keeping what works.Originally Posted by BoarSpear

Are you denying that teaching the butt flop and flying armbars to soldiers would be a diservice?
didnt Helio state Gjj wasnt good for self defense in the street as it is currently being taught in most schools? If it isnt safe for the street, why would i teach it to my military?

sorry you dont like my input....damn freedom of speech thing.
but hey i have said it countless times before, MMA is the only sport i follow...its my favorite. i really like how they brought the average MA out of his stupor...thanks again.![]()
The old navy v programs proved the worth of contact sports in building aggression. I agree, football, wrestling, boxing and judo are critical to building a good soldier...they will have him fit and used to contact ...now the military can teach him to kill.
however without the soldiers experience and extra training they only prepare you for the game youre playing...just like any other sport.
when people compete from school teams in events on ppv its inevitable that those schools specialize in the things that win those type encounters...some techniques are developed that would be suicide if attempted without those rules in place...thats due to the mind set of sports training, and it cant really be avoided. Thats how unsafe techniques leak into a style a water it down...
No doubt that MMA is the way to go if you want to be fit and compete, however it isnt the best option for self defense...why is that so hard to see?
