![]() | KenJeet, I am not familiar with the program, however I am with Pedro Valente and he is an excellent instructor with excellent fighters at his academy. Hawk

![]() | Most likely it will be an extensive class on the basics of GJJ. Since he is an instructor under Helio he is following in this teaching and gonna give you a great foundation. Its probably similar to the class program that Rorion taught to new students at the Gracie Academy when it first started. As for the GJJ style they give you an outstanding foundation, they show you the finer points on basic moves where alot of other schools don't, and that makes a whole lot of difference. |

![]() | Hey Guys, I don't train with Pedro. I have the GJJTA in Silsbee, Texas. I very much wish I was close enough to train with Pedro and his fighters. They are excellent and always do great at the GJJTA National Tournament. Hawk

![]() | "I am proud to say that next week I will start a 40 class intensive private program with Pedro Valente in Miami. The program is designed to be taught in a fashion in which you learn the whole curriculum of Gracie Jiujitsu by the time you are done and get up to approximately a mid-level blue belt to purple belt level depending on your prior experience and aptitude" I hear that Pedro is a good instructor but this is a big exageration (I really hope he didn't tell you this). I know that belt levels are all relative, but you will not be a mid-level blue belt to purple belt after 40 private classes. There are no real short cuts. IMO, for the average "Joe", you need to train about two years before you are at (or near) a mid level blue belt. I would say that would be training 2 or 3 times a week...and not just class. You need to roll alot in open mat and after class. |

![]() | MadMax, If you go to http://www.graciemiami.com you will find a schedule. The last class I say was about 12-16 students. Primarily all white, blue, and a couple of purples. Good group of guys. Most of them are professionals in their mid twenties to late thirties. No guys with bad attitudes, just a group of down to earth guys willing to learn. They are all very good. If you ask around, the Miami team did very well at the last NGJTA tournament. |

![]() | I trained w/ Pedro for two years, and all i can say is that his jiu-jitsu is of the highest caliber and that he is a class act. He grew up w/ and trained w/ the Gracie bros./cousins back when they were all together in cali. (back when Renzo was really skinny!). He got his black belt from Helio. He is easily one of the most technical black belts I have ever met/rolled with. His combination of knowledge, patience, and teaching ability makes him one of the best teachers. This goes for his students as well. They are all really technical. If you are going to train bjj in southern Florida, you cannot do any better than Pedro's school (no disrespect to any other schools/instructors in the area intended). I know a lot of (if not most) of his purple belts and can tell you that you'll never meet a better bunch of guys to train with. If I can give you one piece of advice when training down there (and not to scare you away or anything) -- "Protect ya neck!!!!" Never Teach the Wu-Tang!!! |

![]() | Awesome!!! Thank you for the encouraging words on the Gracie Jiujitsu Academy of Miami. My first private is this Friday at 6:00 PM. I can hardly wait. Hopefully some of my training with Bart Vale and Erik Paulson will serve me some good. |
