Default Elbows

Elbows and Knees.

We all know that elbows and knees are some of the greatest tools for short range infighting. Elbows are bony and cut people easily. Knees are big and come with allot of power.

What I want to discuss is this: Knees and elbows have proved to be the most devestating strikes in the MMA ring, why are they not thrown or used as much as fists and feet? Kicks and punches could just be used as a setup for a clinch or a takedown. Elbows, from what I've seen, cause far more cuts than fists. Why choose a fist when you can do more damage with your elbow?

The best time to use our arms as weapons in the the transition into and out of the clinch phase of fighting. Which is when your closest to your opponet. Also I see allot of fighters not using colapsable punches. It looks sloopy but it works. When the oponent blocks the initial fist colapse the arm into an elbow.

Why are only GNP guys using elbows and knees inside the gaurd and through all phases of fighting?

You said it yourself.. They are tools for short range fighting. And usually fighters are trying to keep their distance throwing jabs and kicks to like chip off their opponent to find an opening, + sometimes when they are on the ground or in the clinch they are too close to each other to risk trying a knee or an elbow.
