I know that was sarcasm... but why would you make fun of Shaolin styles? They're quite powerful...

WARRIOR189: I can understand your perception of Taekwondo but the thing is those "fancy aerial twisting kicks" were developed solely for demonstration purposes. An instructor in his right mind would never recommend trying that stuff in a real encounter. Even for competitions, most guys stick to the roundhouse and back kick.

tkd doesnt really have good kick defenses does it? especially low kick defenses like mt does. u may be able to throw good kicks with tkd, but do u also learn to defend against them properly like u do in mt? dropping that hand to block a low kick like they do in tkd can get u knocked out real fast.

yup most of the kick defenses lie in foot work, and shielding just like MT

TKD has some great kicks.

The only thing is that they are delivered with your side facing your opponent, ideally making your body a smaller target. Its difficult to punch hard from your side without making slight adjustments with footwork.

Not a big fan of backfists and ridgehands.

Ideally a good TKD (SBD, MDK, etc.) man will block, parry, jam or otherwise intercept the kick with his own (foot). One tactic is to destroy the supporting leg but it's not the kind of thing you teach in the Pee-Wee class. No "points" for crippling your fellow students.

They don't teach takedowns either...

Now why would you want to use tae kwon do for? It's very weak. i want it to believe tkd is good too but the truth is, its not.

You know what's REALLY useless? Take a guess. If you guessed "arrogant, close-minded people that think they know everything about martial arts and fighting", then you are correct, my friend.

I'm not saying I kno everything about martial arts and I don't kno everything. I took tkd before and I feel it isn't very useful. I'm not being close minded because i'm just using the JKD concept absorbing what is useful and rejecting what is not and which I reject tkd. I would only be closed minded only if I strongly believed one particular martial art is superior than all others ,which i don't believe this type of martial arts exists. I use what is useful and tkd isn't useful so i won't do it anymore.

YOUR TKD is very weak but TKD is not to blame for your weakness.

Agreed.

And what did you base your conclusion on? How did you come to have your amazing epiphany that Taekwondo is useless as a combat art/sport?

Tell me, becaues I'd like to know. Have you ever fought any good Taekwondo guys?

Or are you just on the bandwagon?

This thread is not about TKD vs. TKD. This is about how TKD will do in a MMA compettion. So the better questiopn will be if he fought anyone with TKD n won?
