Default Dave Loiseau and TKD

This man is awesome. He is a great fighter. But I heard he takes TKD. Does he still take it? I am aware that he has a black belt and that he owes his kicking prowess to Taekwondo. What does he think about Taekwondo? His experiences?

Well he sure loved it when he kicked McCarthy in the ribs. I think that he performs thier flashy kicks in a sharp and consise way, hes a nasty kicker and I think a lot of TKD shines through him.

You can see that kick that Dan talked about in my video clip thread link I posted. Man I think he is a great fighter and love to see his kicking action. He did a fly kick as well after he kicked him in the ribs.

Hes more of a muay thai standup fighter I think he just throws TKD into the mix. He tried for two spinning back kicks the last landed and ended the fight though. He trains with St. pierre though so he is well versed in a lot of MA I would think.

I'll tell you this: while David Loiseau may have a background in tae kwon do, rank in it, and brings in some kicks from it, I'll be willing to bet that when he's training for mma he does not:

practice poomse/forms
do one step sparring
do point sparring

in short, I doubt he practices "tae kwon do" in a format that resembles what a normal tkd practioner does. He trains for mma, with the usual suspects of wrestling, submission grappling, and muay thai, and has managed to slip in a handful of interesting techniques that are on the tae kwon do syllabus.

So, basically...he represents how an excellent tkd artist can become a great fighter if he STOPS training in tae kwon do.

Sorry, was I supposed to pretend not to see the point behind this thread? You wanted to use Loiseau as a support that tae kwon do is good for mma, or great for fighting in general. The truth is, that just doesn't fly. Loiseau doesn't justify your own training, if you train at a typical dojang. If you wanted to use his fights as evidence that certain techniques from tae kwon do are more useful in mma than people previously gave them credit for, that would make sense.

With No doubt that David Loiseau is using Muaythai in his stand up game!!! I think TKD was just a MA that he used to train before Muaythai, which he has almost abandoned.

Yes, please don't lash out, there ane many conflicting beleifs but its really no big deal. Not to mention the guy prolly was at home when he typed that.

Anyways, I think that the way you train is important. I think that Dave L. knows TKD technique and works it in beautifully but doesn't train the way an average run-of-the-mill TKD dojo trains. He trains full contact and probably does little if any kata. If I'm not mistaken, however, MT has a lot of forms, I wonder why nobody sees that. I think that when you are alone and you wanna work on your MA, kata/forms have thier place and teach precision and decipline and breathing. Though I surely don't want to use them as my MAIN way to prepare for a fight.

David Loiseau did TKD back when he was a kid/teen.He throws elements of TKD into his MMA game with the spinning back kick and the flying roundhoueses(could be argued that its in muay thai as well)But he also uses alot of thai low kicks and throws wicked knees and has the best elbows in the sport weither its on the feet or the floor. He uses alot of wrestling for takedown defense and alot of bjj for sub/pos defence......He is a true MMA fighter who is totally well rounded and learns exactly what he needs to be a great fighter...he dose not worry about weither he uses tkd or bjj or w.e...he just fights and fights excellent.
