Default bjj 2 stripes white belt

Just wondering what does 2 stripes on a white belt signify? My instructor told me to put 2 stripes on my white belt last night (been training for about a year). How many stripes can you get on a white belt b4 getting blue?

Where I trained, we didn't just put stripes on our belts. After about a year I went for my first stripe test. It would be another 2 years before I went for another stripe. Then I took second place at a competition and was awarded my blue. Therefore, I'm not sure how many stripes... I was in the Rickson Gracie Association at the time. Why not try asking....

Yep when you get 4, the next level is a color change. He should put the stripes on for you before class,, as a promotion and to encourage others to keep training. But you can skip stripes sometimes, my friend went from 2 stripes blue to purple

Yeah, actually, I haven't seen anyone where more than 2 stripes, so I'm guessing stripes aren't a big thing at my school. I was pretty surprised he told me to put them on. It could be because we've had more new people lately, so perhaps he wants to motivate people by giving more progress indicators?
Anyhow, no biggie...I just want to train and train. I'd be lying if I say I'm not itching to get my blue soon, but at the end of the day, it's just about getting better to me.
