Yea even though it is storyline and entertainment some of those WWE characters got nice moves. They just hold off on applying the move for the sake of injuries. Anybody see the Royal Rumble this past week?
I guess this is the best forumn for this thread since wrestling is the second cousin of BJJ/Grappling. Any Comments? |

Eh, I'm very anti-"pro" wrestling. I beleive that wrestling is the only sport where amatuers are always respected more than pros. However, some of the off the rope aerobatics are graceful and cool. I suppose some of the submissions work..... kinda..... I guess.... but its obviously a big show, mainly showcasing over masculinity and white trash drama. I think its bad for America.

Pro-wrestlers are some big, mean mamma-jammas. In the past couple of years, they've added quite a bit of karate and jiu-jitsu to their matches (holding back of course).
Not a huge fan of WWE, but I catch a glimpse of it now and then. |

Wrestling is for little kids and white trash trailor park types. Or if you're really drunk and bored and there's nothing else on (see above).
I respect them because they're doing something they love, and it takes a shitload of physical ability and dedication. Wrestlers take a lot of punishment. Most of them have broken lots and lots of bones, dislocated joints, etc. But it's all an act. They don't really hurt each other on purpose and don't have real rivalries. It's all scripted and to be honest the storylines are corny. To me it seems like a waste to mix acting with fighting like that. If you're going to push yourself that hard and be breaking bones and physically abuse yourself like that, why not go all the way and just step in a real ring? I love watching people like Genki Sudo. He puts on a huge act walking into the ring, but you know he's the real deal and is really fighting. He's a character...but that's who he is in real life. |

pro wrestlers are pretty hardcore athletes, and they all know wrestling, submissions, and martial arts skills. most of those pro wrestling moves originate from catch wrestling so they can be used for real when done right, although many are also just for show. but dont think those guys cant kick ass, they train hard and lift tons of weights and do steroids with dr supervision so they reap the benefits and suffer the least sideffects. not only that, but if u watch pro wrestling and you are a serious martial artist, you will notice just how well these guys can breakfall. thats why they do flips through the air, take large jumps, and get thrown around the arena without dying. their ukemi skills are rediculous. they have way more skills than people give them credit for having.
btw,all u need to do is watch pro wrestling to see that when people say u will lose speed and agility if u gain muscle, its bs. there are pro wrestlers that look like pro bodybuilders and can fly through the air and do all kinds of acrobatics. one more thing. people dont take pro wrestlers seriously and always mention how its "fake". dude, its a show. everyone knows its not supposed to be real, its just for entertainment. these guys bust their asses to put on an entertaining show for their fans every week. these guys not only train hard, but are really dedicated to what they do, they are usually on the road year long, dont get paid that much(unless u are bigtime) and dont get to see their families much. they make many sacrifices and endure many injuries all for the love of entertaining their fans, so please have some respect. |
