This evening just passed I attended my regular Judo class. The instructor made us do something a little different too normal. We had to get on our knees and put our partner in a choke and fight from there.
The object of the exercise was for the partner in the choke to try to escape and apply a choke on me.
Whoever got a choke first was the winner.
Naturally the class began to resemble a children's playground with guys wrestling around all over the mats.
We noticed that in the heat of battle our techniques all went out the window and we all fought like cavemen. I found it near impossible to apply holds I often practice with a willing partner.

At one stage my partner was attempting to mount me and whilst I managed to stop him by keeping my knees up (TK style) I felt awkward and not in control.

I have now conceded that BJJ may indeed have something to offer me. My only problem is that there are no BJJ schools within 200 miles of me. It's Judo, Aikido or Wing Hun in my vicinity and from those 3 choices I feel that Judo can offer me the most.

My question to the forum is where can I obtain basic information on BJJ techniques? I wish to read up on or view as much groundfighting instructional as possible and then try to incorporate them into my Judo training. If we get to class a few minutes early we are permitted to play around on the mats so this is when I would practice the ground fighting techniques.

I certainly look forward to someone pointing me in the right direction here.

Thanks in advance.

Robin

if you are serious, check out World Martial Arts they have a large library of BJJ video titles.Don't you guys do randori or something like that where you practise ground tech. against a fighting opponent?you have to train it to do it.

Thankyou Street Cop.
Unfortunately all our Tandoori is done from a standing position. The style of Judo that we practice is very much based on the current Olympic rules. My Instructor has never even heard of Brazilian Jib Juts or the Gracie family so im really hard up against it.

Default you didn't seem too impressed with bjj techniques before...

or was i not reading some of yr prior posts correctly?

anyways, there aren't too many places online where you can see techniques layed-out in an easily understandable fashion.

try this database: http://beech.forest.net/gracie/TeamG...arch.htm&-view

other than that, i really don't know of anything online that's very good.

Robin Hood,

You must not be paying attention in class because the Old Waza definitely incorporates Tandoori. Usually after training, however.

Thankyou Garrison. You are correct, I was very disrespectful of BJJ because I felt it was the same as Judo.
Now I do see a need to know the ground game. It may well be that Kosen Judo has the same techniques however my instructor is not familiar with Kosen Judo.

Just go and buy the Gracie Basics.Training on the net isnt that good IMO.But,tape training is a little better. The Gracie Basics and Intermediate are the best for a solid foundation. How long have you been training in Judo.

Without getting into tape reviews, because there are many very good ones out there try this:

Find a couple of guys who may be interested in the BJJ game and see if they want to roll with some of the techniques. Experiment with the video techniques, take notes, and practice. You may be surprised with who wants to incorporate these techniques. This will help your Judo immensely.

Also, find somewhere to go once every couple of months for a seminar or a private lesson. This, without a doubt, will be crucial to understanding the BJJ techniques. I had to do this for a while when I had no school to really train at.
