Jeromme Le Banner trained in JKD for years before going professional and he has been very successful in his fight career. He is the only 'fighter' that I know of that openly claims to have practised JKD. He mainly fights K1 and other kickboxing events so I know it doesn't answer your question about MMA fighters.
I haven't heard of anyone in Pride, UFC, KotC, etc that openly claims to practice JKD..... http://www.fightingmaster.com/fighte...ner/jerome.htm |

If you look at the rules for ufc, you can see why it almost always comes down to fighters using muay thai/ BJJ as the prime styles. |

if it wasnt designed for the streets then why didnt bruce lee compete?? because as he put it his ways of teaching wouldnt be allowed in most competition sports due to the fact they wer based on the most effective ways to fight streetfights!! to compete would contradict this. he gained his knowledge through running about about hong kong scrappin with half the city, mainly the local english skool down the road, he had his own gang lol, fighting on roof tops also on known occasion against armed fighters (there is film footage of this)! if u look at his notes in the tao of JKD he has about 3 pages on how to kick and stomp some one in the head when they are on the ground? why do you think he moved away from classical teachings, they were not effective in real life!! even that is not allowed in ufc, neither is eye gouging or groin kicks which are the first two primary targets in BL's mind??
how can u say it is not designd for street fighting??

What's cool about JKD is that each instructor is different from the next, but the emphasis on dynamic training and realism is second to none.
There's a few JKD instructors on this site from time to time: Tim Mousel - founder of the site Tim Tackett Burton Richardson Mike Brewer Stanley Phillips Others: Dan Inosanto - Bruce Lee's direct protoge Paul Vunak Eric Paulson Joe Solis Many of these men have trained successfull MMA fighters, pro-boxers, soldiers and have been in real combat whether through security or military work. |

I need a good JKD school in the bay area Tom; is this a better bet than the Fairtex Academy or Cesar Gracie school?
I want to focus on realistic combat, I'm not trying to be some UFC fighter...

Here's a JKD school in the Bay Area:
http://www.jkdkickboxing.com Contact Phone Number: 408-373-0204 or 650-245-4507 Address: 963 Laurel Street, San Carlos, CA 94070, USA It can't hurt to visit, try a class out and tell the instructors what you would like to learn. Give it a shot and tell us about it ![]() The Fairtex Academy or Cesar Gracie School won't treat you wrong. You will get excellent instruction at each. The Fairtex academy will teach you muay thai, they also have guest instructors in boxing & BJJ I've heard. |
