I heard there was a guy out in Fair Oaks that says he trains with Chickson Gracie that used to teach as a Black Belt when he was really only a blue belt. In the long run he got caught and de-ranked him self to purple belt when he joined the Chickson Club thingie. I don't know the guys name, and I never go out that way. Does anyone know who I'm talking about? The story I've heard about this guy is that he was comparing himself to Nino a couple years back until Nino came into his gym and "checked" him. I'm not sure if this guy is from Brasil or if he is American.

So, when you say Nino "checked" him, do you mean he kicked his butt? I mean, Nino could more than likely slaughter this guy.

BJJ fakes are the worst. Right now I train under a guy who needs to get a belt promotion... Ya, he's awesome at BJJ, but I FRAG him in Unreal Tournament.

fakes suck....and so do people who jump the Gracie bandwagon...

Fakes suck, but I also don't respect people who jump the Gracie Bandwagon just because they are famous. I train in Japanese jujitsu and sumbisson wrestling (ketsugo), and at a Gracie seminar our instructor was told by Rickson he could pay all this money and become a certified Gracie school, but we would have to pay dues and all this.
I'm glad our instructor didn't jump on the bandwagon and instead stuck true to ketsugo jujitsu.
After all......Sak ended up showing the world that japanese wrestling can be just as competitive as GJJ.

    Fake BJJ

I think the guy you are talking about is David Terry. He claims to be an affiliate school of Rickson Gracie. I trained there for a while, but then moved on. He is a power lifter and I think has some Judo background. He was a black belt and then, from what I heard, was moved down by Rickson. When I started there, he was a brown belt. He has since gotten his black belt from Rickson. I don't know if he actually earned it or if it was given to him just to stop him from crying. He never rolls with the students and is rarely in class. He has a blue belt lead the class when he isn't there. He is a fireman and can't make it to the gym a lot. He has pretty much run off all of the advanced students because he is such a jerk. He talks a lot and calls his students names and just carries on like an ass when he is there. This school is all about the money and thats it. He calls the school Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Academy of Sacramento (http://www.dgweb.com/~sacbjj/index2.htm) and it is located on Fair Oaks Blvd. There is another school with a similar name, so don't confuse them. I don't have any information on the other school. So, if you are looking for a place to learn or train in jiu jitsu, stay clear of David Terry. He is a waste of your time and money. You will spend all of your time learning from and training with white belts. I hope this helps.

-Yeah, it would be a bad idea to train with "Chickson" affiliates, after all, he is the hardest teacher to advance under, oh, and 16 years straight World BJJ champ in every class he competed in, but yeah, go look elsewhere cuz what could you learn from the best?
Someone else answered your question, but for example, Vitor Belfort was a purple belt under Rickson, but he jumped ship to Carlson GRacie sr and was immediatly a black

The knock is not on Rickson. He is a very good martial artist, no doubt. However, the thread was about David Terry, and, although Rickson is very skilled, David Terry runs his gym in such a way that he alienates most of his students after a while. If you go there, you would have a hard time finding a purple belt. Not because it is hard to advance there, but because they get sick of Dave and leave the gym. So, forget about the belts, go there and see if you can find many people that have trained with Dave for more than 5 years.
And to answer the original poster, David Terry is American.

There are fakes everywhere. BJJ is quickly sliding into the new wave McDojo style.
