From http://www.fightnews.com
Famed referee Richard Steele has retired after 40 years in the sport of boxing. This announcement came as a shock to the Nevada State Athletic Commision at the officials' post fight meeting following the HBO-televised bout between Mayweather and COrrales;where Steele had just been praised by the commission for his performance as the referee that fight Saturday night in Las Vegas. Steele told Fightnews "I might as well quit while I'm on top." Steele, who runs the Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Gym at Nevada Partners, said he will stay involved in the fight game and continue to train new officials, but he said "You'll never see me referee another fight" Me personally I owe a great big thank you to Mr.Steele and his beautiful and I do mean beautiful wife Gladys. As a 16 year old gym rat,he hauled me to and from the gym many times. He also kept alot of the bad people away from me. He taught me about the boxing business. Which is something he didnt have to do. That is a man who truly does care about fighters and not to many people do. It's a shame we have now lost the 2 best referee's in boxing in less than a year. |

Well PunchDrunk has proven himself to be a moron once again. Please tell me your sources or any proof of him being in Don Kings pocket? Or is that just your idiotic conspiracy theory? I have met the man and his family and have been around him alot. Never once was his integrity ever in question. What I am trying to say is SHUT YOUR ****ING MOUTH! YOU ARE NOBODY YOU DONT KNOW ANYBODY AND YOU JUST DREAM UP THIS SHIT AND PUT IT ON A PUBLIC FORUM! NOW BEND OVER AND TAKE IT LIKE A GOOD BITCH!

See, I sunk to your level. Listen Big Turd, I really don't care if Richard Steele let you suck him off in the gym when you were sixteen or not. And I'm glad he kept the "bad people" away from you, alright Mary? But just because you personally know somebody doesn't make them the greatest person in the world. You sound like a love struck school girl defending your hero. Get a grip, a-hole.
Did you ever see the Taylor Chavez fight? Steele took major criticism for stopping it with less than 10 seconds to go. So he either stopped it because of Don King, or because he was incompetant. Which one is it, Turd? Steele is also know for other mysteriously quick stoppages, all in favor of Don King. So tell us Big Turd, what else did Steele teach you about the boxing business, except how to deep throat referees? |

Lets talk about Taylor-Chavez please. Did you see the fight? If you had you would realize that Taylor was taking a horrendous beating. Steele's job is not as a time keeper its as a referee. He didnt know how much time their was left in that fight and he shouldn't care. If Chavez would have landed one more shot we would be calling Steele a horrible ref for letting Taylor get killed. Do you realize how many pints of blood Taylor swallowed? Even Lou Duva recently admitted that with Steele not knowing how little time was left that it was a justified stoppage. But then again you know more than Lou Duva. The list of world champions you have trained makes Duva look like a nobody.
I want concrete rock solid proof that Steele is in King's or anybody else's pocket. Give me proof please. I mean he must be doing something right as hard as NSAC reviews their referee's. Ask yourself this question when was the last time you saw Kenny Bayless work a major fight? Do you know why that is? It's because he made some horrible calls and he is relegated to working 4-6 rounders until he is worthy of bigger fights. One last question for you. WHAT ARE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN BOXING? |
