Yojimbo:
Beleve it or not, I'm in Chillicothe. As a matter of fact, I'm about to get ready here in a few minutes so I can go out tonite and watch Chilli's first NHB comp. Mark Coleman is suppose to be there as a guest. Mickey: Hamilton, Bradshaw, those guys have balls the size of coconuts. You're right about a whole new level when it comes to Teahupo'o. There's a couple of spots down under that comes close to it: The box at Shark Island and this one butt-ugly break called the Zone. As far as Teahupo'o, though I don't think anything can touch it when it comes to its brutality. Did you know when they had the Tahiti Pro Skins (bodyboard), an Aussie named Ryan Hardy did the unthinkable: after taking off and doing the infamous elevator drop, he set his rail back, did a bottom turn, got barrelled for a couple seconds, and DID A FREAKIN' 360 IN THE BARREL! He made it out, too. Now that's crazy. They were calling that day 10 to 12. JCameron: Somehow,I keep seeing the number "27" whenever I read your post. [Edited by ILONGGO on 10-06-2000 at 03:53 PM] |

Hey, we're pratically neighbors! We have to meet up sometime. Where is this NHB fight being held? Later, Yojimbo |

It's in Chillicothe at the Elk's Club. If you can fly here, you could probably still make it, since it starts at seven. It's gonna have stand up only, submission only, and Pancrase style. I'm still debating wether I should jump it or not; I got off work at 8 this morning and I haven't slept yet; on the other hand I keep trying to justify to myself: what if coming off one of those midnite shift and some punk decided to start something? What am I suppose to say: Oh, I just got off midnite so I can't fight you, so why don't you punk me, my wife, and my kids later?
I'm just going to be ready, so I got my cups on. If you go, look for a Hispanic/oriental (the further south I go, the more Hispanic I look)looking guy with blue T-shirt/blue jean jacket on... [Edited by ILONGGO on 10-07-2000 at 03:33 PM] |

Just got back from the NHB. A guy from my class just plain dominated his division. His first fight was submission via heel hook that lasted probably 45 seconds. His last fight was about a minute and a half, also submission via heel hook, even though his opponent probably outweigh him by at least 20 pounds. There were some tense moment, esp. when this one competitor started taunting the crowd and this heavy assed local wanted to tangled with him. The local would have been mangled. It was great to see this type of show get exposed here. I hope the stereotype of martial artists being the karate man who break boards and do katas all day long is finally over...

Speaking of hard breaks. Any of you fellows spend anytime at the Wedge in Newport Beach? Is it still a zoo? Many people still being carried out on a stretcher?
I've not been in many years. It almost put me into early retirement. It can apply one hell-uv-a neck crank. Cleatus "the Kook" Ledbetter [Edited by Cleatus Ledbetter on 10-07-2000 at 01:46 PM] |

Never been there, although in Hawaii our version of it is Sandys and Waimea shorebreak. Yes, I don't think any escape is possible once one of these spots get hold of you...
