Matt Hughes is a ground 'n pounder.

He was a collegiate wrestler by training, so he's going to either shoot or go for the clinch so he can get a takedown. This may sound unskilled or brutal, but wrestling is a science. Its all backed by physics and the techniques are beautiful. Wrestlers are some of the best conditioned combat athletes as are boxers.

Once he gets his takedown, he will go for control in the top position as wrestlers do and have done for centuries, but in MMA he will take that position and rain as many punches necessary to knock his opponent out.

I have a Masters in English, pitiful as that is, but still cannot seem to find, anywhere, the definiton of "stadegies". Is it a typo for "stradagies"? Could be, but the word then would be "strategies". So next time kiddies, you might want to make sure the word is spelled correctly other than just sounding it out like a 1st grader, Boar ask your daughter to proof read your posts, she's in 2nd grade, right?, so thats still 1 grade above you !! and 2 grades above the false boar"speer"

The end goal is to win by knockout or submission.

That being said there are many strategies. The lingo in MMA is kinda street, but that's ok.

1. Sprawl n' Brawl - This strategy is used by someone who likes to strike. They want to stay on their feet as much as possible and strike their opponent until they cannot continue. They will learn and drill as many takedown defenses to avoid being taken to the ground.

2. Ground n' pound - see my first explanation.

3. Submission - The goal is to get the opponent to the ground as quick as possible, gain control like ground n' pound, except they use striking only as a means of setting up a submission technique to either cut off the opponents air supply (choke) or to break a limb.

-----------------------------------------

Virtually any emptyhanded martial art style can fit in the above categories, however many arts do not train to understand each game nor are they willing to cross train.

Thank you Tom Yum, youve provided quality information despite OmaPlata's childish antics.
