LOL! Calling me an idiot... nice lol. Getting a little defensive because you're wrong are ya? awww... thats too bad lol. Anyway let me EASILY refute your point. Ok, first you obviously don't respect boxers as fighters, you're probably an idiot yourself. Boxers use gloves to protect themselves... but in bare fist or any other encounter where they throw punches, they have the upper hand. Punching accounts for one of the 4 ranges of fightting, close range.(long, close, clinch, ground being the 4) A WHOLE RANGE... you must not know much about mma. Or self defense, in fact, you've probably never even seen a fight. If you're a pro boxer you will do extremely well in a fight, seeing as to how you will be in exellent shape, strong, quick, and have great footwork and hands. Yes, it is not complete in and of itself, but it is an essential part of learning to fight. And an opponent doesn't need to sit there and box, all you need is a couple punches bare knuckle to hit the floor... sometimes only one.

You're hardly qualified to rate a post. Though, I also refuted you, seeing as to how you made it easy lol. But I also think that was an excellent post Tom.

The real effectiveness in boxing is its simplicity and movement. Footwork and head movement can make a boxer hard to hit whether in the ring or street. Add to that timing and he can unload quick. Take away his space and put him in the clinch and he can still arm wrench, headbutt (this even happens in regulated matches!), elbow, hold the head while hitting it, stomp and bite (Tyson). I don't see a boxer getting on the street and sticking with the Marquis de Queensury rules but I see him setting up the guy he's fighting and sending him to the ground real quick, unless its not a 1 on 1, his opponent is a strong grappler or has a weapon.

It helps that he's really stocky and works out alot, but it looks like he's got about 6 months of boxing (has the fundamentals).

Excellent footwork + head movement, correct effective techniques and the intent to apply relavent force are also the key factors in a full contact stand up or submissions fight. Boxing skills and training alone wont win you a fight against any well rounded and experienced MMA'ist or a well rounded street fighter. Unless of course they lose their brains completely and decide not to use their advantage and stand toe to toe with the boxer and exchange punches. |
