I couldn't find anything on this from the search. So i was wondering about some methods on how to defend against when someone grabs your shirt?
Do they teach this in BJJ or gi less BJJ? |

1. You can strike any number of ways to loosen the grip, then apply a joint lock/takedown. Someone grabs your collar to pull, you can ride it in with a head butt (hapkido: the art of coordinated power, remember?). If the arm is bent, push on it from the outside to bring your opponents elbow up near his head, step a little behind him, and pull him down (add a little sweep if he's +50lbs heavier). You need a strong strike to get the sweep. 2. Is the arm extended? He's grabbing your shirt or pushing over a period of time? Seize the wrist, step aside and apply pressure behind the elbow while locking the wrist and keeping pressure against its natural bend. When you apply that pressure on the back of the elbow, you need to have your hips nearly perpenidcular to his. See why? 3. Are you grappling? If you're mounting ---> armbar. If he's in your guard, bring him closer to you, but use the crown of your head to put pressure on the side of the jaw (make it a little harder to bite). Wrench the arm (overhook) above the elbow. Take the leg on the same side as the arm your workin with, and place the knee against his hip. Use your back and hips to extend and put pressure on the back of that arm. Hope that helps.... I have used no.2 in real life, pinned up against a wall. I've used no.3 while grappling.

Tom's right. Wrist locks are the way to go in this situation if you can get extension of the arm, either downward, or to the outside(the wrist).

Are these something like your talking about? I saw on a Matt Furey tape (idk if u think he is legit) that he palm strikes and then steps to the side and chops out the leg. But could just like shoot a takedown even if their grapping you? |

Yep, those are the ones. If done properly they can be very effective.

Depends on the situation. One hand or two? is he cocking back to punch you at the same time or just pushing/ pulling? Wrist locks are typical and effective but stripping works too just swing one arm like a windmill blade over his hands. You can trap his hands against your chest and just lean forward (wrist lock) Or if he's using both hands push up forcefully on his elbows, he'll let go ... ![]()

Also, Nutter butter, this site is about contribution and growth. He asked a question, I tried to give a reasonable answer... where did you do any thing like that?

I like the trapping hands on chest and leaning forward... but I'd prefer something that's more easier to follow up with, like Kote Mawashi followed up by an armbar, then face first into the ground, with you on top, and them with a dislocated shoulder, and a smashed face.
