As for the Sakuraba fight, didnt Sakuraba train in Judo and wrestling? If anything, his Judo background is what saved him from Royce's submissions and ground work. Also, Sakuraba was a much better striker than Royce, and Sak outweighed him too. Oh, and Royce did have a locked in Gi choke but he didnt finish it, probably cause he jumped guard???? |
I think one of the biggest misconceptions about Kung Fu is that the person in that video is a good representation of it. A guy with side kicks like Bruce Lee.

It is commonly known in Chinese martial arts society that in order to fight effectively and survive in a battle, any proficient martial artist must acquire four basic catagories of fighting techniques: kicking, punching, Chin Na, and Shuai Jiao or wrestling. Shuai Jiao includes Chinese ground fighting. The fighter in the video has no knowledge of groundfighting clearly. But that is not because it is a deficiency of the art, but rather, of the fighter himself.
