Default What do you train in, and for how long?

What do you guys who post here train in? How long have you been training? Why did you start in the first place? What do you feel the benifits have been in your life?

That's a lot of questions in one post ;-) I train in kickboxing, bjj, and boxing. I've only been kickboxing for about 8 months and grappling for about 2...I started because i wanted an alternate cardio to my work out and now i like kicking ass. I'm probably more assertive and assured of myself and i'm ALOT more in shape.

Nice. What do you prefer outa the 3? I actually do those three too, but I also wrestle. Do you exercise outside of training?

For me it's only been a a little over a year of Rykukia (Can't spell it right to save my life.) and a few months of Tang Soo Do. I've worked with 5 different instructers. I started first because my mom made me take it, she figured it'd help with my self disapline, which is has a lot. Now I continue because I love it. It's fun for me and I like working out.

I train mainly in Judo, with some GJJ on the side once a week. I started because I saw some friends of mine at the local YMCA doing some martial arts there, so I decided to sign up for it. The benefits? Everything. Discipline, confidence, honor, and self-control. Oh and the cardio's great, too.

For these past weeks ive been going to wrestling practice(3 practices a week). Each practice is 2 hours long and we do alot of drills instead actually going live. Right now we've been doing freestyle and greco. I really want to join a BJJ school but im living in another state right now with my mom so she probably wont let me.

Unofficially, im training in BJJ from my brother and he's teaching me boxing and MT techniques. I started doing alot of BJJ since the beginning of this year and its definetly improved my wrestling, dont know how, but it seems like its helped me manouver on the ground(mat) better and im good at reversing ppl whether im on my ass or my back. Also, ive started to use alot of tight front headlocks which partially choke my opponent out which makes me win much quicker.

Being on the wrestling team has definetly made me good at wrestling from the time i started freshman year(im gonna be a junior next year) up until now....i just dont like the team thing since all my teammates are assholes and 2 kids from the team hate me and they somehow influenced all the other teammates even my coaches to feel the same way......and thats why ill switch to BJJ full time.

Ive been doing Muay Thai for about 2 years now.
Originally I was just doing weights and I was getting bored of it, I started working in a nightclub. One of the doormen there was a instructor in it, I started asking about. I stopped doing weights, thought MA was a better way to stay fit.
At first, I started JKD, but wasnt my cuppa.
Three months later I stopped going to JKD, and started to practice MT.
Since then I aint looked back, since I started the MT the benefits of it have been I've made some great mates, Ive travelled throught it (been to Thailand, which is a place I thought I would never go, and I'm going again in 6 weeks, ), free entry into some clubs around the town, , aswell as discipline, confidence, and last but not least, a chat up line of "Hey baby, would you like to see my Wai-Kru?". However for some unseen reason, lasses dont seem impressed by it esp. when it is preformed drunk. Back to the drawing board......

Please note, I shall not be attempting this in Bangkok.

BBJ is most often a typo for BJJ.

BJJ is brazilian Jiu Jitsu, arguably (well its been proven but people like to argue it) the most effective GROUND fighting, style.

Its mostly grappling, came from the gracies, who got it from Judo, who got it from Japanese Jiu Jitsu.

I figured that, I wasn't sure so I thought I'd ask. I love ground work. I went a womens self defense seminar a month or so back. It was strictly all ground work... 5 hours of ground work, oh that was inturesting.... especialy being the youngest one there.

sorry it took me a while to get back to this thread! I like kickboxing the most I think..but grappling is right up there..There are a couple amatuer fight leagues that allow women to do MMA so when I'm ready i'm gonna see how that goes :-) I do train outside of the gym, 6 days a week- 1 hour of cardio and 1 hour of weights..but i think i'm about to switch that up a little bit...I'm also trying to cut weight right now :-\ never fun
