I was just watching a match on TV; Karaleksis vs Von Flue. Von Flue choked out Karaleksis with a technique I've never seen before,
a counter to the guillotine. Apparently, when you feel your opponent going for the guillotine and dropping to guard, you drop to side control and choke him out with your shoulder. Tried to figure it out by using the wife but she wouldn't have any of it. Wouldn't let me use the kid either... Anybody know this technique and can break it down for me? Something new every day...

I think it's basically you in side control, reach as deep as you can with your underclasp hand so your shoulder is on his throat, then lean in and put all your weight into his neck.
I might be thinking of something else.

Its called an arm triangle, or a side choke, you use when someone is guillotining you and you have them mounted or in sidecontrol...you slip your arm in through their lock(by where their hand is) and you pressure their arm/shoulder(with your body) into the side of their neck, then you clasp your hands and pull into the other side of their neck to get the choke.

It's quite easy to get on the less experienced guys, as they don't tuck the elbows in as much. You can also get it from the guard if the guy is inexperienced & aggressive - slip his elbow to the side of your head as he's pressuring down & he'll drop into the choke

Von Flue told Joe Rogan afterwards that yes, he did bait the opponent into it by providing an easy target for a guillotine and that once the counterchoke is applied the opponent can't even tap out because both his hands are pinned. In the replay you could see Karaleksis struggle a bit, then his legs twitched and then he was out cold! Man, I gotta learn that one!
