Ive grappled with some people who are complete idiots man.....like one time i pulled guard and scissor sweept this guy over and got mount....i set up an armbar but i dont throw the leg over the head i just sit there and attempt to give him a chance and he start to spazz out and tug and try to buck me off and in the process whips his head right into the floor giving himself a huge ass bump on the back of his head.Another time i was playing around while grappling and i had the guy in an arm scissors....well i keep pulling it with very little pressure and he resists alot....suddenly he stops resisting and i pull it back again and his hand just pimp slaps the shit outta me...i couldnt stop laughing, thats what i get for goofing off.

Just remembered somethin' else. There's this guy who likes to shmooze with the instructors, buddy up to 'em, and tell 'em how great they are. As a result, he got promoted to blue belt a bit early. Really, he was around white belt 2nd stripe, maybe 3rd.
We'd just covered how to pull guard in class. Afterward, we rolled. He moved toward me, grabbed my lapel, and jumped up. But instead of putting his legs wide to go around my waist, he put both his knees to his chest and angled his feet outward to make hooks. He actually thought he was gonna "pull" butterfly guard--from standing up! What makes this even funnier is that he has stubby legs. Needless to say, when we settled into position, he was mounted and looking up at me with this surprised look on his face. I didn't say shit, just sorta smirked down at him.

I don't know why in the hell you'd want a belt you weren't ready for. I remember as a white belt gunning for blues, only to get owned. I submitted blues only when I was close to a blue myself as a 4 stripe white. And those that I did submit were recently promoted. There's nothing wrong with tapping to a lower belt, but if you didn't deserve it, you'll get tapped like a bitch every class by those lower belts.

Amen to that. You're completely right. I'd rather be just a little underranked than the other way around. But after training a long time and still wearing my no-stripe white belt, its time for me to get some rank. Gonna hafta do a tournament, and/or go to a few more seminars. Not lookin' forward to "running the gauntlet" when I get my blue, though. (You take off your gi jacket, everyone who didn't get a promotion lines up on both sides of you, you walk while they all violently whip your back with their belts.)

I assume that the purpose is to entertain Jorge Gurgel, as he seems to be the driving force behind organizing and encouraging the gauntlet.

At the place I train we don't "Run the Gauntlet" in that manner. We force the new belt holder to spar with everyone in class (3 minute rounds) which doesn't sound too bad until you realize that we get upwards of 25 guys in one class on occasion. When that happens, I 'd really rather get whipped.

We also don't use "stripes" so when I hear 2nd, 3rd white or 2nd, 3rd blue, I just think White and Blue. Stripes just seem a little strange to me personally. My point? I don't have one really, just making an observation.

Anyway, back to the strange whitebelt stories, I had setup a mini-seminar for my instructor (a Rigan Machado BB) at another school about an hour away from ours. The school in question had alot of fighters who competed in a local AM MMA show and they happened to have the Heavy Weight champion for that show as one of their students. And to add one more "also" . . . they were essentially a boxing/Muay Thai school and had just lost their Sambo teacher so everyone in the room had a few subs but they were essentially white belt material.

The "champ" spent the entire 2 hour seminar giving my instructor "the eye". He just stared across the mats with a "I'm gunna kick your a$$" kind of a glare. And after the instructional portion of the seminar had ended he damn near sprinted up to my instructor to roll with him and then proceeded to tap out three times in less than ten seconds total. After that his attitude made a 360 degree change and he took to the instruction extremely well.

Now that I think about it, getting my back whipped w/belts probably is less suffering than rolling w/everybody in class. I normally gas out after rolling with anywhere from two to six people, depending on how fast I tap 'em, my conditioning at the time, healthiness of my diet, etc. Sounds like our champion friend really just wasn't aware of the effectiveness of a BB in BJJ. How quickly they learn respect!

Haha well I am still a white belt and only started a couple months ago but I have been training with a blue belt friend of mine. We were rolling around and he knew I had a broken nose so when he got on top of me he started tapping on my nose ever so slightly. It drove my nuts
