Rorion might be right about the demise of BJJ.

Last night after practice one of the guys at the dojo said he had been to see a BJJ competition (All Japan or something like that). He said they announced that, following Brazil's lead, leglocks would no longer be allowed below brown belt level. I could see maybe making people wait till blue belt, but this is ridiculous. What's next, no takedowns?

I think takedowns are dangerous and they should not be executed until at least purple belt level. Same with neck cranks and chokes. Arm locks are ok because you always have another arm. Chokes and neck cranks are bad because you only have one neck. For this same reason, i think that small joint manipulation is fine. I mean, you've got 10 fingers, right?

Do you guys have mats at your school?

Seems funny that something a kid learns in High School wrestling lesson #1 would be too dangerous for BJJ students to practice.
