Yeah I had a Muay Thai class today, it was a personal one, he taught me the jab, cross and left hook and also the roundhouse. He knew I took TKD so he gave me minimal instruction to see what I had or probably what I didnt have! He just told me to blast the pads when he told me what combinations to do. I think the instructor is on crack. Haha, its just that he told me I had hell of alot of power for a small guy and he was wondering if I wanted to compete and maybe make money, I was like WTF? Its only my first time! He was even thinking I should try for a fight in Vancouver by April. Anyways, I thought I was going to die, the CONDITIONING IS ****ING HARD.....I almost passed out twice after and had the biggest damn headache that still persists. Course it didnt help that I had a cold.
Overall the instructor told me I had great potential but I needed tuning on my overall skills, keeping my hands up and also MY CARDIO. BTW-I AM HELLA HAPPY NOW.....NO LONGER an ARM CHAIR WARRIOR! [Edited by YeLLa-TiGeR on 02-02-2001 at 11:49 PM]

Muay Thai sucks
HA! Just kidding damn that is impressive that your instructor sees potential for you to compete. Or maybe he says that and sign up for a contract of two years and......... |

Yeah, thats what I was thinking as well! But then again, he seemed somewhat sincere. The thing thats sorta bothering me is that there is structured classes, but he recomended for me to come in bymyself and to train without someone else. I am supposed to just practice and one of the instructors is always standing by and basically give you something to do if some one is there. An example would be him holding the pads or something.
The fishy thing was he also advised on private lessons for the first couple of few so I can get the techniques down pat. So its $299 a year....$30 for an intensive private lesson. The thing is when I come in for non formal training and if no one is there, he would teach me for free. I plan on paying for a month then some privates. I am spending every cent I have from working on Muay Thai lessons. This is how badly I am willing to sacrifice to train. Pretty sad huh?

LOL you can say that, my kicks were what impressed him the most. But then again, I have been trying to kick like a Thai for the last 3 months in TKD!

Hey Duchie!! Long time no see!
Yeah no shit eh? I gotta learn everything like the knees and the elbows not to mention the clinching and counter clinching. He was more or less talking to himself then. He was like "Hmmmm, maybe April, if we train intensive...nah scrap that, maybe later in the summer." I will find out which branch or federation I belong to.

Fighting Muay Thai in the ring is different to having a "shot at the title" in boxing - there are even more titles believe it or not ? ! And I mean more........like 20 or so.........,...
In Oz, you can be a "World Champion" after a few fights. There are so many "titles" that it doesn't mean anything anymore. Yours truely, an IT professional (ie; computers)....big he may me was promised a world title........but my mother did not like the idea !..... Here's the drill for reality; Under 90KGs - beat everyone 80-90Kgs - World Champion - Not many to claim this. Alexio would claim the weight as BS. Over 90Kgs - Go to K1 - no where else. Under 80Kgs - beat the Thai Champ and you are champ. (though not many at 80Kgs) |
