Default Fight Science

Maybe I missed thuis elsewhere, but just a reminder
National Gepgraphic Fight Science airs Aug 20th.
They will measure the force of kicks, punches and a variety of attacks and defenses and use CGI to demonstrate what is actually happening with that force.
Of course they will put some of that force in to more everyday terms or points of reference. This should be good stuff and may dispell or confirm some myths about particular strikes and the like.

If it is the one I have already seen, it was a big let down. So don't get your hopes up too much, but hopefully this is something new that is worthwhile.

You're probably thinking of XMA. "Fight Science" is a NAT GEO special. It'll probably have better information without the Discovery Channel style junk science.

Rickson Gracie will be on this show! He will be performing an armbar too. Theyre going to be measuring the 'pounds of force' or speed that certain techniques from various martial arts do. Like an armbar applies 600lbs of force on the elbow or a "KungFu" strike is 40 miles per second. Stuff like that.

Think of the potential of having a set up like that...see increases EXACT in how you should perform a technique, by tweaking every minute detail of movement, angulation, and striking area. You could create a complete system, and continue to tweak it into perfection.

Just think what level you could take your art to! fastest and most powerful strikes. how to move to maximize leverage in grappling...shit...how to better manipulate weapons for speed and force...ouch ouch ouch. I want one!

those things are probably only that expensive because their unique...with technology today, who knows what'll be mass produced tommorow.

Just think how those tools would revolutionize every combat sport known to man...mas money there. Not to mention possible millitary applications, the result would blow MCMAP out of the water. Not to mention generalized fitness, push the limits of what people can do with their bodies...

the shit could be (r)evolutionary.

Maybe so but I'm not so sure. I think more than it would change the way we'd do things it would just tell us why we do things the way we do them. This does look like a cool show though.

I'm talking minute changes for the individual fighter. Like perfecting the angle of their kicks, and/or how far exactly they should step in, in order to maximize their potential power from each blow. Like, say...after a sample of like 1000 kicks, finding the exact movements of the 10 strongest, or THE strongest, and trying to replicate the results from the hardest kick every single time they throw a kick.

Actually, it would be pretty cool to log like a months worth of training on one of those to see how hard your best shots landed, how lame the weakest were, and how close to the average the shots were. It would be interesting to see how consistant I was, and of course what I was doing on the most successful shots. I'm not sure if it would make a dramatic difference, but it would certainly be worth a look.
