Oma...what do you think wrestlers do while in the stand up game? When they have you in the clinch/tie up what do you think they do...just stand there and let you pull them to the guard? Or just stand there patiently waiting for you to pull off one of the fancy moves you mentioned? Wrestlers while in the tie up have just as many attacks as any bjj guy. They can pumple to a front ankle pick up or to a fireman throw or to a single or double leg takedown. They can arm pop up to side strangle hold or rear ankle pick up to a rear mount. While in the tie up they can pull the head in for a shoulder smash to the nose then shoot the right arm around the head and drop shooting the left arm between the legs for a leg hook for a very nasty lift and dump takedown. Thats just a few of the techniques that you will have to worry about. The other thing that you will have to work really hard at is taking them down from the tie up because they are very good at pumpling (or as some say pummeling) and using different footwork while in the tie up forcing you to move with them and preventing you from simply dropping to the guard. As far as you thinking that wrestling does not have a rear mount with the hooks in...or a rear naked choke have you ever done any personal research into the wrestling arts in America back in the late 1800's and early 1900's? If you would take the time to do some of your own research you would see people like Strangler Louis (how do you think he got that name?)Frank Gotch in the early 1900's then later Karl Gotch in the 1940's and 1950's doing Catchascatchcan Wrestling. You would see people like Lou Thesz doing real wrestling. Submission wrestling did not start in Brazil regardless of what you want to think. There were people here in the good ole USA doing submission wrestling long before bjj was even a blip on the radar. Look at Judo Gene LeBell, most people think he only did Judo because of his nickname but he trained personally with Lou Thesz and Karl Gotch and learned the art of Catchascatchcan wrestling and also knows Sambo and trained boxing. So do not fool yourself into thinking that wrestling does not have the submissions that bjj has. High School and Collegiate wrestling may not have the subs but I assure you that "real" wrestling does. Let me say that I am in no way against BJJ I just think that it is good to cross train and learn other arts...especially the grappling arts.

I agree, but I also know that its 345098344594-1 that wrestlers are training in BJJ than a BJJ guy walking into a wrestling gym (do they even have those? lol) Maybe a MMA school with some wrestlers, strikers, BJJ guys, muah thai, etc is the best place to train. No matter, Id still pick BJJ to be the very well versed at before starting in other arts, just because having the ground game down pretty good makes learning other stuff better, more time to concentrate on them. Im not big fighter myself, i few fights here and there and some BJJ tourneys is all, so going to a MMA school isnt high on my list. ON top of all that I carry 'gats' in my cars, so if more than one guy wants to play games they will get a head full of lead, or if I see tank abbot pounding on my roof, good night Tank. I trained with Pat Johnson before at Roger Lacome's studio and even chucky baby when i was a kid, at a JKD studio, I think it changed to the "chuck norris system", didnt it, JKD? |

Everyone tells me wrestlers pick up bjj right quick. Bjj guys suck as bad as any other one-year wrestler after one year. Good job.

The arm-drag was around long before you or anyone else got a hard-on over Brazilian boys. Give it a rest.

Umm, perfected: yes, created: no. Lol. The more I read your posts, sir, the more I think you're really a Gracie behind that computer. I have a lot of respect for the Gracie family, but you guys DID not invent grappling or leverage. BJJ popularized the guard position and opened a lot of people's eyes and my hat's off to them. But...the arm-drag is actually a popular wrestling move, way before even Marcelo Garcia was born. Yeah. Before he was BORN.

its OK, he's a little beeotch that has zero intellect or a scintilla of knowledge about MMA, BBJ or anything other than strong-man-in-the-circus-tight-wearing-ball-hugging-funny-ear-cover-thingy-wearing-no-submission-skilled-wrestling. I might let him lick the sweat off the underside of my shaved testicles if he was dying of thirst in the desert, but thats being too kind as it is, I save those salty drips for his mom, so maybe she can spit them back into his little bitch pie-hole if he's thristy? I think so, moms like her are good for that kinda kindness, though she tends to swallow the other stuff ![]() |

So the arm drag was used by wrestlers to take the back and submit the opponent via a RNC? hmmmmmmm, Ive never seen a wrestler do that anywhere, not in ADCC, not in MMA, not anywhere., Ive seen Garcia do it to the top grapplers on the planet and put them to sleep with it year after year after year. IF black belts fall for it, certainly funny ear cover wearing guys will submit to it much easier |
