I know this is exciting but here goes...for lunch I usually bring either good ol PB&J and some triscuits hehe or a sandwich consisting of whole wheat bread and a slice of swiss cheese...I need to eat better, at least its better than what I ate in college!

I know that the vast majority of you wouldn't believe me, but I function best with a diet very high in fats and with minimal (actually zero) carbs. I eat red meat, a ton of cheese, mayo, lots of vegetables, fish (exp. salmon) but no bread, candys, sweets, fruits or starches.

i work across the street from a wendy's, so i eat their grilled chicken like a maniac! sandwich, salad, pita...it don't matter
i don't get the baked potato anymore because if i ate the whole thing with whatever i was already eating, i would get a total "cement gut." you guys know the feeling? when it feels like you ate some cement mix and then drank a glass of water? |

Yella, I actually have MUCH more energy without carbs. But I'm on a definite minority; I'm Very Carb-sensitive;for some reason I cannot process them fully, so I store them in fat. Also, high glycemic ones give me headaches and dizziness. Not so with fats. They give me energy.
I was told I have the perfect methabolic make up of a long distance runner; I can use stored fats for long-duration activities. |

Underdog: Re: "with minimal (actually zero) carbs"-Many of the foods you listed DO contain carbohydrates. However, in very small amounts.
Underdog's described diet can provide the necessary substrates to sustain the body through protien intake; when the amino acids are deaminated and stripped of their nitrogen to form saccharides (sugars) to provide a substrate for anaerobic energy production. Most people can adapt to such a diet... however it doesn't work well for most athletes because it doesn't provide enough substrate for glycogen compensation because of the volume of their activity. |
