how much more extreme can rugby get?! me and my brother were trying to think up what an extreme basketball league would be like. i thought it would look a lot like that old video game "arch rivals".
Mixed Martial Arts, Thaiboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Combat Submission Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do, Women's Self-Defense, Boxing and Filipino Martial Arts
Imagine the XFL but with no pads, 15 players a side and non-stop action!
I think it would be a clear winner my friends, a clear winner.
Cheers

I always had this idea of BattleBall. Imagine five players a team...with full pancration gear: facemasks, gloves, forearm guards, knee-shin-instep guards, and cups. Play in a basketball court with wrestling mats, or on grass. Use a volleyball...and basically, anything goes, and you're trying to get the ball to a small basket type goal on the other end...perhaps four feet tall. Kind of like that game they have on Battledome...but better. Submission is also alowed...you tap, you sit on the sidelines until a point is made. any suggestions?
You guys make me proud *sniff*
Cheers

If my memory serves me right RL was previewed in Milwakee(sorry cannot spell it) apx. 10 years ago. The match was between Wigan and Warrington I think and it turned into a right battle as they were close rivals at the time - plenty of scraps etc.
It was a hard game - before RL has been cleaned up so to speak - but nothing out of the ordinary.
The crowd reaction was - "the hits, the hits" "no pads, no pads" look at the faces of the crowd was a picture.
I do not know what happened to the venture but presume not much??
Them were the days

JSN,
There have been a few attempts to get interest in the sports in the US. I say sports because Rugby Union and Rugby League are slightly different. I think the largest game in terms of quality of teams for Rugby League in the US was NSW vs QLD, (Australian State of Origin) in LA about 10 years ago. I think they got about 30,000 to attend. League would have few or no teams competing in the US.
Rugby Union though has a much larger following. The US has their own team that competes in international matches but are probably a 3rd tier nation at best. Rugby will never compete I believe in the US with your own Football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey etc and as such, will probably not hit the elite levels due to this. (Would be interesting to see if some of the footballers you have grew up playing Union !)

i tend to agree
its just the same with ice hockey and basketball in the UK compared to USA.
unfortunately the UK isnt much cop at that much on the sporting front - we are only a little county after all and do our best.

Thought you were from the US. You guys do okay. St Helens beat Brisbane recently in World Club Championship. Am looking foreward to the Ashes though !
If vince legitimately thought an extreme rugby league could turn a profit, he would start an XRL. Vince had a failed two year experiment with a new bodybuilding federation he started in the early 90's known as the WBF. He also sold off his bodybuilding supplement known as icopro in the mid 90's. Vince also tried promoting boxing ppv's (leonard vs. lalonde I believe) without much success. The guy is definitely willing to take chances.
I think an XRL might work if given a chance. Good idea sabrutat , imo.
