Default Frank Mir competing this weekend

No, its not MMA.

But I still don't have a ton of confidence in him.

This weekend Frank Mir will be taking on 2X All American and the only guy to pin Brock Lesnar (during their Collegiate Wrestling career) who just happens to have a few years in BJJ and is undefeated in sub-grappling . . . if you haven't figured out who it is (actually, I'd be surprised if you knew who he was) its Dave Anderton.

Mir and Anderton will be facing off in a superfight this Saturday at the American Grappling Games AGGRO Tournament here in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The other superfight is going to be Ricky Lundell (America's youngest BJJ Blackbelt) against one of the countries best lightweights Jeff Glover.

There is also going to be an Absolute tournament and Jeff Monson has registered and committed through his manager to be there.

Check out the details and a few interviews at http://www.americangrapplinggames.com

He has looked pretty bad, I don't know much about Anderton either though, I have heard he is a beast but I have never seen him compete... Hopefully Mir will be in some kind of decent shape for this match. Understandably he is overcoming alot with the accident and all but he shouldn't come back to the ring until he is ready to perform...

We're going to see some of the best grapplers on the planet on Saturday and its honestly your loss for not being there . . . but they are filming the even for DVD release.

Mir's appearance is part of his coach's (Mark Laimon) and his manager's plans to get him back in his old school shape.

However, I personally saw Anderton rip apart a couple of ADCC level competitors this last weekend and I think the people who are putting the money down on Mir are not going to do too well.

I would love to go, too bad im 1000 miles away at least. Who did Anderton 'rip apart" that was in the ADCC of any year??? I dont not believe it, just wondering, I wonder how good Anderton is. Mir WAS an awesome BJJ Black belt when he held the title, his last 2 fights, as we saw, he got spanked by De Pano pretty bad. This is good for Mir to get back into some heavy training, as he needs it. However, for pure grappling event, I still cant bet against him since i dont know Anderton. And tell those guys Mir is pronounced MEER not MUR

I used the word "level" in the phrase "ADCC level competitors" to differentiate the people he has beaten from people who have actually competed in ADCC. I "qualify" someone as ADCC "level" when they have beaten someone at the ADCC level.

IMHO, Anderton wins this matchup as long as he doesn't try anything "stupid". The guy can get a little anxious and go for techniques that just aren't quite there and that could be the opportunity Frank will need to slap on a sub . . . then again, getting a sub on Anderton and finishing it is not the same thing. Mir has never faced anyone with Anderton's combination of size, power, speed, and athletic ability.

What Mir brings to the table that may tip the match in his favor is pure and simple experience in this field of competition.

And I am fairly sure that Mir is still a brown belt, I hadn't heard of him getting his black and I'm fairly sure that his manager would have included that in his bio.

Frank Mir's Myspace page describes him as a black belt:

He's only listed as a brown belt on bjj.org, but I understand that the list of fighters by ranking on that site is not always current or complete.

how can anyone say that Mir hasn't faced anyone with as much ability as Anderton? Mir was the UFC heavyweight champ. he didn't get here by fighting less than skilled opposition. alot of people forget that everyone in the UFC has fought tough guys in smaller shows and worked their way to the top.
