They must be cleverer where I live.

I used to be in the Marines and we learned various styles all at once. We learned elements from BJJ, some from Judo, Muay Thai and boxing. To be honest, I dont remember any of it. They were all too different from each other. I say, liek others, start with one style. If you train, and gain the muscle memory from BJJ, for example, you will have that knowledge when you are taken down, which is 95% of all fights. After this good base, I wouldnt even say black belt, maybe a good blue, or purple, then step up to a good striking art like Muay Thai. This to me, is the best combination.

I agree with most that you need to reach a advanced level in one art before you start training in multiple arts. You need to find teo systems that compliment each other if you are going to train multiple arts. In other words if you do BJJ then you will want to do something like Muay Thai or Boxing just as others on here have said. Your goal should be to become a very good well rounded fighter who is just as comfortable on the ground as you are standing.

Oma, I do not know what JKD schools or instructors you are talking about that gives out belts like a wal-mart center but I have not heard of them. It took me 4 1/2 years to reach black sash under my first instructor in Jun Fan/JKD and I have trained with Larry Hartsell for the last 12 years and I am a level 2 Associate instructor in his organization.

No offense though Oma, I know there are always people out there who are in it for the money and not the art or the student.
