I lived in Vancouver for 3 years.Port Moody is quite a distance away. Several hours by car.
There are a couple of JKD clubs. The best (in my not so humble opinion) is Trevor Clarkson's. He's a senior instructor in PFS JKD (he's been on a couple of Vu's tapes). His club is in Richmond, which might be a bit out of the way depending on where you're living. His instructors have clubs all over the city. Tim Shears has one downtown. Collectively they're called "Creative Fighter's Guild." Both guys are heavily into BJJ. Trevor's page: http://www.creativefightersguild.com Tim's page: http://www.straightblast.com I trained with Weldon Cheung, one of Trevor's instructors, but I don't think he's teaching anymore. There are also a couple of high quality FMA instructors. Louie Lindo teaches Balintawak escrima, as well as bit from other styles, as well as Pencak Silat Mande Muda. Loki Jorgenson (sp?) teaches pekiti tersia, as well as Silat. There are numerous BJJ clubs as well, I think Carlson Gracie is represented. There are the typical TKD, Karate, Aikido, Wing Chun, Wushu, etc. clubs here too. Vancouver is a pretty good city for martial arts. Most of the clubs/people above are in the yellow pages. As far as drinking is concerned, Gastown is one area with a lot of pubs, Richards St. has most of the discos/nightclubs, Yaletown is a cool area with some interesting bars and restaurants. I hope you enjoy your time in Vancouver, it's probably (again in my not-so-humble opinion) one of the nicest Canadian cities! -Tony
