Question Most Applicable Supplements to BJJ

Right now Im taking some NO2, protein shakes and joint supplement. What are some supplements that you guys are on and how do you think they are helping your training. I have seen that with NO2 supplements I feel like my cardio is getting better and I have some more power. Even after I stopped lifting weights I maintained a lot of strength. The protein is for recovery and also to keep myself lean for tournaments. The joint supplement is to replenish my joints with the stuff they need, materials we do not get from our regular nutrition. Aside from supplements I follow a basic, many meals diet, eating from 5-7 times a day. I try to eat at least 5 fruits throughout the day. Natural carbs are the best. Product names are ok or just general products. No commercials please.

NO2 is what the product often goes by but the actual chemical is AAKG, which is a modified amino acid arginine. It increase the amount of nitric oxide in your blood which is a vasodilator. This means it increases the size of your capillaries making your muscles bigger and more "pumped." Essentially this means you get more oxygen, fluid and therefore nutrients and energy into your muscles. For me it definately makes my muscles bigger, huge plus, and it makes me feel like I have more energy, and more explosive. There are many companies that sell this product the cheapest being Higher Power Nutrition, through bodybuilding.com. Thats what I use and its all the same stuff really. There are other types, some powders, capsules, whatever, its all the same stuff. Give it a try if you have the extra money, works for me.

The thing with creatine, also an amino acid is that is causes you to gain weight. This is not necessarily muslce weight but water weight. Many people also get bloating. If you do supplement with creatine be sure to drink alot as it tends to make you dehydrated and get a newer type like creatine ethyl ester. I think you may feel a little too "full" with creatine but there are many studies which show it is good for gaining muscle and endurance over long periods of time. There may be a slight loading phase and remember to cycle off as the product suggests. I am not an expert on this matter but as for any supplements there is tons of information. Try bodybuilding.com's supersite for information on any product. They have many many pages of info for you to determine is this supplement is right for you and your needs.

I take Glucosamine and Omega 3 Fish Oils. I notice the difference with Glucosamine, as I have a bad knee. It takes a couple of months to build up but it definitely helps. I stopped taking it three months ago and my knee has gone stiff and painful again.

Yeah I have heard great things regarding joint supplements and have used them in the past. My joints arent that bad so I dont need them often. There is much research showing the benefit of such products however. Give em a try.
