Default used or really cheap gi's? and a ? about color

I just switched from a mixed class of jjj/judo/aikido to a much faster paced/more hands on bjj class. the instructor told me id need to get a new gi as the one i have now its too thing (also it fits baggier than id like) Between school and the cost of the classes etc, I dont have a bunch of money to spend on a new, fancy gi.

I was wondering if anyone here had any old ones that dont fit them or they dont use anymore that they would sell for cheap? If so please contact me at Chance301 AT gmail DOT com. I think I would wear an A2.. Im about 5'10" and I kinda fluxuate between 135-140 pounds, Im very thin. Also if anyone knows a place that sells them for cheap that would be great. As of right now I dont need the best quality gi on the market as Im doing this more for the self defense aspect and dont really plan on competing unless I get really really into it (at which point I would get something nicer)

Any help would be very much appreciated

The other thing that I was wondering that I forgot to ask in class was does the color of the gi matter? I wasnt sure if the blue or black gi's had some kind of signifigance behind them?

HCK has really affordable budget gi's. Check out this one. Only $50!

I'm not aware of any significance behind blue or black gi's. Some schools don't allow you to wear blue or black gi's unless you're blue belt or higher, but that's all I know of.

Boilwash and tumbledry your current gi to shrink it, then stick a club patch on the back.

Gotta be worth a try?

No. GI color is personal choice, I have black, blue and white ones, that way when one is dirty i can wear the other ones, and vice versa

I would stick to white or blue gi's until you're a purple belt. A white or blue belt wearing a black or red gi will be cannon fodder for the higher belts

...And don't get me started on those tuxedo gi's. It'd be cheaper to tattoo 'choke me senseless' across your forehead

I want BJ Penn's orange gi, probably one of the gnarliest gi's I've ever seen.

Some schools have restrictions on Colored Gi's it really depends on where you are... I have visited a few schools where you are only allowed to where a white GI until you make blue belt, then it is your choice... As far as cheap Gi's of decent quality HCK is probably the best you will find for the money... Gameness also has a single weave Gi that holds up well (from what I have heard, I have never owned a Gameness Gi)...

I have never owned a Colored Gi myself (white is just fine by me) as I never saw the need to pay 15-30 extra $$$ just to get a Gi that will fade over time and do nothing extra for my game.... save the extra money, put it towards a private lesson to work your basics with your Coach.... just a word from someone who's been around the block a bit now...
