    Anyone else glad Shoney lost??

Even though Serra had his back twice and should have tapped him out.

Serra still won, i missed the fight but now ill try to TIVO it on a repeat. I read Serra was bashing on that prick that made fun of Royce losing, good for Matt.
Even if Matt makes it to the end, he has to fight Hughes is it? He cant beat Hughes I dont think unless Hughes makes a huge error and gets caught

I don't understand why Serra constantly passed up the chance to Choke Shonie out? I saw the fight and Serra had at least 4 opportunities to win by choke out. Also, for the Judo men on this forum--if you saw this fight then you saw the opportunities for the o uchi or ko uchi sweep. Are they illegal in UFC or did the fighters just miss the opportunity.

I love Shonie. There's a whole chain of buffet restaurants down here named after him that have a teddy bear as their mascot.

But anyway, back on topic; I do love Shonie (for his personality as well as his skills) I just like Matt a lot more for the same reasons as well as the fact that he's come across on the show as a very effective and selfless trainer / instructor / corner man. Somebody who's friendly and down-to-earth enough that you feel you can trust him and learn a lot from. Shonie (and others) owes a lot to Matt Serra for what he's done for them during the show.

I'll always remember Matt's gravelly Long Island New Yawk voice, corner coaching during the matches; "Don't forget the foot stomps, they're there for you... NiiiicccE!

Yeah Matt is the best fighter on the show, but his size is a hinderance, and I agree with Omaplata, everything that guy has written makes sense.

I agree. Im glad Phony Carter lost. I like Serra but after seeing his fight against shoney, im convinced that he dosn't stand a chance against Huges. Serra had two opportunities where shoney gave him his neck. the difference b/w serra and hughes is that hughes capitalizes on every opportunity he gets in a fight. Also, hughes trains to be able to last the full duration of the fight. It was obvious that both shoney and serra were not nearly as well conditioned as hughes; they were both noticibly exuasted in the last two rounds.

You really can't compare (or for that matter put in a match) anybody from the TUF show against anybody from "The Show". They all look like, well, like amateurs.

Didnt see the fight, but to answer your question, ouchi and kouchi are both legal in the UFC.

Watch Diego Sanchez vs Karo Parysian.... Karo Ouchi-Gari's the **** out of diego, oh it was so nice.. I almost cried when I saw it... great fight.

I trained with Matt Serra for a little over half a year and i can tell you he's an awesome Fighter/Coach/Cornerman and a great person to boot.Remember guys shonie is VERY hard to submit...he recently was submitted 2 xs this year i believe but before that he hadnt been submitted in years...excellent defense espically against the RNC.

On the show, Serra comes across as a really good trainer...he led his team to domination, there's no denying that.

I think against Shonie...part of the problem was that he was sweaty. Dude looked glossy even on the TV. And IIRC in his first fight the other fighter asked the ref to towel him off.

thats true, im sure that the sweat makes it much more difficult to controll your opponent. I have alot of respect for Serra; he is a good coach and a natural leader. If it wasnt for his personality on the show i think the house would be alot more boring. its obvious that most of the fighters on the show respect him as a fighter and a person.

Just watched the fight recently, and Serra definetly did go for the Ouchi Gari, and succeeded with it, so I really dont know what you are talking about when you were asking about that... all of those "power slams" where he kinda just pushed him forward, he was reaping the leg from the inside, all those times when he grunted, that was it, it was especially obviuos in the first one.

I wanted Shonie to win. Matt Serra has horrible stand up, ok takedowns, and is not all that great on the ground for a seasoned BJJ blackbelt. < (and that was a sick rhyme ) Shonie had a couple nice Lateral drops though.

Yea, I wanted Shonnie too. But, Shonnie hung in there pretty well, the guy is so damn resilient, just when you think he's done, he comes back, and sometimes hard. I think he stole the first round after almost being stopped.

Matt Serra, if he wins, will get through the first minute of the first round with Hughes... and that's about it.
