![]() ![]() | If we're talking SD... I mean headbutts surely are great for grappling and striking... a good headbutt in clinch, possibly while squared off, and during an exchange of blows in standup. As far as on the ground, it's actually a lie when the Gracies say one cannot strike when on the bad side of a rear mount... headbutt can take care of that if it happens just right(not bjj bashing... just saying), also when in half guard or guard it fan work wonders.

![]() | The best way to throw a head but is to flex your neck muscles and from your waste. Try to connect the top of your forehead (right below the hairline) with the other guy’s nose. Accuracy is important because if you hit him with your face, you will not only look stupid, but you will look stupid and bloody. I would not recommend using the head but unless you are used to it, i.e. soccer or a crazy guy that likes to head but people. Also, if someone has you wrapped up from behind, just throw your head back; you will be fine.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, what Bauer said! There are parts of the skull that are more domed-shaped than others which makes them stronger than other areas and are relatively safer to use for striking. Your target however, should be any part of the opponents head NOT fitting the same description. i.e.; Optimum Striking Surfaces (in order of preference): Area #1: high side of head (above your ear and at the same level as area #2). Area #2: high forehead, near the hairline. Possibly the strongest part of your head and easiest to use but should be reserved as #2 because it's above the eyes and if you get cut and bleed you will be blinded by your own blood dripping down into your eyes. Area #3: High back of head (at the same level as area #2). Optimum Target Surfaces: 1. Nose 2. Eye, Eye socket, Brow Ridge just above the eye 3. Temple (Slightly above and in front of the ear) 4. Ear 5. Side of Jaw (below ear) 6. Mouth (but beware getting cut by the teeth!) Just remember; always hit soft things with hard things!
