If Hughes was seriously contemplating retirement, this should keep fighting a bit longer.
I still want to see him rematch BJ Penn, and he'll probably want to rematch GSP as well. At least he doesn't have to fight Serra the "tomato can," he should be happy about that as well. |

Honestly, i didnt see this fight going down the way it did. I thought Hughes would have been able to take him down. I didnt think he was gonna stand with him. As you could see in Hughes' last fight with Penn, his stand up is not that good. Yea, that kick came out of now where, but Hughes was getting drilled heavily before that. But St. Pierre threw that kick and he wanted it to hurt, if it didnt land, he was just going to blast Hughes with more punches. Matt Hughes is not a striker. Though he has improved a great deal, he will never own in the stand up(unless it was against BJ Penn with a severe rib injury and an empty gas tank). Im not taking anything away from Matt, but his stand up is bad(for a champion) and he'll just get owned in the rubber match. I hope Hughes doesnt retire now(he said he was gonna fight like 2 more fights and retire.) He still has a lot of fights left in him. |

Heres one: his stand up sucks. Heres another: his ground game sucks. Heres a 3rd: hes inst top ten anymore now we see how bad he really is, too bad Diego Sanchez didnt get to him first. Guess Diego has to destroy GSP to get the title. And yet antother: He cant beat GSP is 20 attemps, he was completely owned in everydepartment.

Nobody fakes a head kick up that high, that's just idiotic. It could be part of a combo, but that's like saying getting a KO with the hook preceding the trademark right cross makes it an "accidental" hook KO. To be fair I think part of the confusion here could be due to GSP's Eengleesh. Honestly surprised it took so long for somebody to figure out sprawl and brawl would beat Hughes. I mean GSP was practically overkill in this one. |

That leg kick in the 2nd round was awesome
![]() But I noticed that Hughes always gets saved by the bell... vs penn he got saved by the bell and this time, even though he still lost, he should have lost it in the first round, if only gsp had 5 more seconds.. Well deserved ![]()

To any of you who belive that Matt Hughes is not a great fighter, I'd like to see you go to the ground with him. To any of you who belive that GSP is not a great fighter I'd like to see you stand up with him. Both men would tear anyone on this post in half. Talk all you want, but at the end of the day Matt would school you all. I like both fighters so I can say this without bias, the two shots to the nuts were most likely not an accident and if any of you had fought a full contact event and been kicked in the nuts you would know how easily that could take the wind outof your sails. I think the fight was awful and that GSP, while an amazing fighter, did not win in a way that a true competitor would want to win, with two illegal kicks to the balls!

No one ever said they could beat Matt, Georges, or any fighter... And even when idiots claim Hughes' ground game sucks, theyre just comparing it to GSP's. Oh, and the groin kicks.... GSP didnt win by kicking Matt in the groin you fuckin idiot. Hughes even admitted in the post press conference that he exaggerated both groin kicks. Besides he was wearing a cup. GSP won because he was the superior fighter, athlete and was more skilled in every aspect of the fight game. |

Exactly dude, J-Tard cant afford the pay per view so he got the shortened interivew off you tube, GSP said he looked down to fake a leg kick so Matt would either lower his hands to block or lower his head to sprawl if he thought GSP was going to shoot. either way, he set the move up, it was a far cry from an 'accident'. But the 'hughes nuthugger' groupies have to say it was lucky that Matt lost, when in reality this was going to happen and should have happend a long time ago., hughes isnt and never was that good, he was an average MMA fighter at best. and GSP showed us once again, after Penn did twice, that fact. I just wish Diego was the one to spank that arrogant over rated prick hughes |

GSP was textbook from start to finish.
It wasn't even close, GSP put on a fucking seminar and Hughes was the student. Charge for private lesson: 1 Welterweight Title Belt.

GSP was using a lot of lead leg low kicks with no quick switch ie not Thai style (the two "groin" shots as example). Does anyone know what his training background is? I remember reading he had some TKD in his background, but I'm wondering if he has any Savate - him being French and all. The knockout kick was certainly Thai, but classic Savate in set-up :-)
The whole night was a good UFC. Even the undercard fight after the GSP Hughes fight was pretty good... |

with a victory like that George has a pretty easy path set out for him unless Hughes makes a comeback or BJ comes back to the division. |
