![]() | has anyone here ever dislocated there thumb ? I dislocated my thumb training at the weekend, the instructor put it straight back in and x-rays later confirmed a perfect set and nothing chipped. My question is, to those who have experienced what I guess to be common in martial arts a thumb dislocation, what sort of therapy did they go through ? The Doc's at Accident & Emergency have put a plaster on for 3 weeks to protect the ligament. Any advice is good to hear. Cheers. Apologies if this needs moving. |

![]() | I've never seen or heard any team mate having a dislocated thumb but of course that doesn't mean it never happens. Just the opposite that thumb injuries are a somewhat common injury. I've sprained my thumb pretty bad a few times and it takes a very long time to heal since in every day use, you use your thumb so much.... It's almost like a rib injury which takes forever to heal. Sure if you don't breathe, your rib injury would heal a lot quicker... : |

![]() ![]() | Popped mine out last night. Put it back in and continued training. No problems . . . but then again, its not exaclty like this was the first time it ever happened. Get better fast . . . and emergency room doctor's aren't exactly the best qualified sports medicine experts. Find a decent sport's therapy outfit and get an evaluation (many of them will do an initial injury evaluation for free).

![]() | I've had my thumbs dislocated during sparring. I didn't set it and get back into sparring like DJ.(Maybe I should next time) I usually had it set back in by my trainer and waited untill the next class to start sparring again. I've always found it frustrating that I could take a beating to my face and body and be perfectly fine after class, and even though there are other things that could go wrong in training what will take me out for the day is my little thumb getting tweaked.(But if that's the worse that happens I'll take it) DJ makes a good point about making sure you get advice from the right people, and it seems you have a good/proffessional trainer who has the skills to train you and keep you well if need be. Hope you get back into training soon. |
