This was told to me by a coworker who is a big MMA and
prowrestling fan. I can't say it's definitley true, but he's been consistently right about this kind of stuff for two years. This is what the Japanese media is reporting: The fight is definitely going to happen (as definite as these things can be), it will take place in Japan, the purse is $30,000,000, and it will be on PPV in the US. He thinks Tyson will have to wear 16 oz. gloves, it will be at the Tokyo Dome, it will go down in June, and that it will be real. This could be interesting. [Edited by E1am on 02-20-2001 at 08:54 PM]

Tyson in 16oz gloves? What a rip-off! Give the guy a freaking chance. Hell he doesn't even where 16oz gloves in actual boxing matches. Let him wear the NHB gloves.

thats stupidest thing i ever heard of. a win for fujita means NOTHING if he has to wear those gloves. BTW i bet anyone this does not happen tyson isnt that dumb unless he knows he is going to win. he wouldnt go in there with gloves on knowing he would be taken down. if it does happen im either calling work and tyson KOs him with the 16oz, or im saying he doesnt wear the gloves.

Fujita info from a Pride Site:
"Fuijita (6'1, 234) shocked the world with his decision victory over Mark Kerr. The former college wrestling standout then went on to defeat Ken Shamrock at Pride 10 by TKO when Shamrock's corner threw in the towel. Fujita has wasted no time in climbing up the heavyweight ladder. With his solid wrestling skills and tremendous mental toughness Fujita has a lot of promise" IMO, Tyson better start practicing with the NHB gloves.Of course, if he can manage to launch that "one" punch, it could be over |

keith - i think both tyson's and his "people's" blindness/cockiness/over confidence is what will be the driving force behind his camp thinking that he can handle this encounter with NO problem. i think he's in for a rude awakening. someone in his entourage needs to get him in there with a top notch heavyweight wrestler so he can experience what it's like to be immobilized on the ground.
MW - concerning the "one big punch"... you know he's gonna go for it. we'll see if fujita makes an effort to avoid it (the smart thing to do).

HA!
Nothing would pleasure me more than seeing that whining, cro-magnon beeyotch Tyson getting mounted and then pounded relentlessly into the bloody f***ing stone age, as he goes cross-eyed like he did when that bloke Buster Douglas nearly broke open his certainly empty coconut. It's about time that somebody sent that sad sack to his inevitable destination: as a carnival attraction that children pay a few quid to view. Perhaps somebody can toss him a Holyfield doll--or a peanut--which he can wrestle with for our amusement, all the while spewing his ridiculous jive. I wemember when I was a bwoodthirsty savage, before they put me in dis cage! I want Wennox Wewis! I will eat his childwen! Fujita is going to mount him like a supermarket horsey. Anyone think it's funny that Fujita might be the only guy in NHB who could actually take a decent shot from Tyson and not have his lights turned out? While he hasn't exactly faced anyone with Tyson's power, Fujita has been hit cleanly many times in almost all of his fights yet hasn't done anything more than wince from shots that would send most guys to the ground a la Pulver/Lewis.
If this happens (I really don't think it, will, but I'm corssing my fingers), I think Fujita will probably beat him much the way he did Yvel, only Tyson won't have any guard skills at all. Actually, it might be like his fight with Kerr after the halfway point - knees from the cradle position. Unless Tyson connects really cleanly with a combination (unlikely - he hasn't thrown a good one in years), Fujita is gonna take him down and beat him up. We might also see a neck crank or keylock, too. As for pictures of Fujita - try going to Susumu's gallery (http://member.nifty.ne.jp/westisle/susumu/index.htm). There are pictures of him in several of the Pride events. He's fought Hans Nijiman, Mark Kerr, Ken Shamrock, and Gilbert Yvel - all of which were wins, one way or another. He also fought at a small US event under another name as a favor for the promoter, but I don't know any more than that. He trains with Don Frye and Brian Johnston, but like many Japanese fighters is working with Sakuraba, too. He looks kind of like Brad Kohler with a blonde crewcut if you've never seen him. His style is pretty much ground 'n pound, but he has a chin of reinforced steel, uncanny stamina and is always active, although he doesn't necessarily advance position as well as he should.

IF this really happens, and is not a work, I think it will settle the Tyson vs. MMA question once and for all...
1) If Fujita G&P's his way to an easy victory (or better yet, taps Tyson out), as most of us expect, it will show that MMA is the "ultimate" combat-sport. 2) If Tyson or Fujita wins a difficult and bloody decision it will show that the two sports are roughly equal. 3) If Tyson KO's Fujita easily, it will prove that boxers are light-years ahead of MMA'ers in terms of durability and striking power. So Pit Dog, Judo Guy and others will be able to crow. Should be good, no matter what. It'll never happen.
