Guys and Girls,
I'm moving to the south side of Chicago in a week. I'm from a very small town with no martial arts gyms around, but I'm a huge mma fan. I'm looking for a good mma gym preferably with muay thai boxing and some bjj. Hopefully one that is reasonably affordable. Can somebody please help me out. I can't seem to find one on the net anywhere........ thanks

How far are you from cicero? Check out Combat-do in Cicero. It's pretty good. I train there. It's just west of Chicago.

Like I said, the place is great. The owner Bob Shermer is a former Marine and a MA Hall of Famer. Shonie Carter comes in often to teach grappling. Some world-class Thai boxers train and teach there as well. The only problem is that MMA and Muay Thai classes overlap. But you can figure it out and still do it.

The paystructure is on their web site. I pay $82 a month for unlimited by automatic electronic withdrawal for unlimited classes. (2-year contract)

You can take a look at Joe Goytia. He is teaching out of a high school on 111th & Western. Joe is a JKD guy certified by ted lucaylucay who does a lot of MMA stuff. He is also a promotes some fights
Goytia's Martial Arts 3857 W 111th St Chicago, IL 60655 (773) 450-7775 One of his students runs this place on 63rd & central High Intensity Fitness & Martial Arts 5613 W 63rd Chicago, IL 60638 (773) 838-1800 I also believe there is a shidokan dojo on 111th and Talman or so. Shidokan guys are pretty serious but I don't know anything about that school. |

I can't speak for Muay Thai schools, but here are some good BJJ schools. Of course none of them are on the south side.

Mike Rose is in Orland Park. Great school. I went for a little while but it didn't work with my schedule well
