one thing that comes to my mind when sticking to one style only is ranges. most fights do no start in bjj range do they? so if bjj is all you knew, you could have some trouble getting into the proper range to use your tools, unless your really good. it is possible, but you would have to be pretty proficient in the art inmop. however if you choose mt, most fights start off in the range that mt specializes in, so you wouldnt have as many problems as getting in proper range than if you only trained in mt. and mt could be effective at preventing you from going to the ground, despite not giving any training what to do once there. what do you guys think ?

    Judo....

I'm not talking about that olympic style competition stuff. Judo is so much more than many realize. Virtually every technique in BJJ is from the Kodokan. OLD SCHOOL. (Like before the rules changed to emphasize throwing techniques.) In the Judo katas and "exercises" you will find all manner of striking techniques. (and weapons)

A contestant shall be deemed to have been defeated when from any cause or causes he may become unconscious...

    Kano Jiu-jitsu contest rules.

"In all countries where personal freedom is valued, however much each individual may rely on legal redress, the right of each to carry arms - and these the best and the sharpest - for his own protection in case of extremity, is a right of nature indelible and irrepressible, and the more it is sought to be repressed the more it will recur."

The only thing i hated in judo was we never learned to block the punches, well the throws we were learning were automaticly blocking sistem itself, but in a fast fight its hard to catch his snaping hand when goes to your face

But it isnt what you train to defend yourself, when u see a person cant fight and trains some martial art, its the person that cant fight, any martial art is deadly in a hand of a master.

About the fights outside, i had fights on what ever number you can imagine, i live in that kind of area + i aint that kind of a person to step back like a pussy... 1on1, 10 on 10 (thats shit, you amost dont know who to hit), 4-6,...

I dont want to fight, Ok maybe 1 out of 10 fights it was my fault, but i apologized (usual it never works) so we fight, sometimes ill just try to help my friend out...

But i think the most suitable skill is boxing becouse it can cover more things when ur like in a club which is full of ppl, you get in a fight dont have much space around you and just punch, usual there isnt any space to use legs.....

The focus is different from BJJ though so it developed differently.

I should probably stay out of this, since I have an obviously slanted opinion of BJJ but I do want to interject that the one of the greatest assets your BJJ training will give you is the ability to get away and stand back up if you find your self on the ground . . . no other martial art and I mean NO other martial art gives you the tools to regain control, reverse position, and escape during a violent confrontation if you find yourself unexpectedly on your back.

Of course, life is much easier if you use your track and field skills and just get the hell out of there.

    Sadly not many do.

Kata is so ritualized it is hardly recognized as something to do with fighting.

An observation after watching a few MMA fights last night....

    Bear with me here.

The Judo man that introduced Newaza to the Gracies was a famous fighter. He was so confident in his Judo skills that he wanted WORLD class boxers and wrestlers to fight him.

One of his favored "tricks" was the low stomping kick but he would also throw elbows! He used these and other tricks to close the gap, get the attachment and topple his opponent. He used sweeping kicks, leg takedowns
other Judo throws before he would finish his opponents on the deck...

Never get too caught up in a specific technique to take advantage of the things that present themselves during the course of the event.

Too many players get their mind set on a certain thing to do and that's the focus of all attention ( *see "monkey trap" )

Even techniques that offer opportunities for inflicting OTHER kinds of trauma get overlooked.

It doesn't take a blackbelt to realize that "grappling range" means knees and elbows will hurt a guy. standing up or on the deck.

I've watched hundreds of grappling matches where one technique was attempted poorly and never finished while other options were clearly exposed but never noticed by the player.

    Judo is adaptability.

I would say Muay Thai. They can strike before having to grapple, and use clinch techniques in wrestling. If they keep from the full-fledged grapple, they could win. Physically, they are built to gain power while retaining speed, and able to use their knees, etc efficiently. My vote is with MT.
