Default O'Uchi, Ko'Uchi, Gake, and Ko' Soto

Edited to add on Deashi

I'm wondering why you don't see more of these in the Clinch during UFC matches. You will always see them in the championship fights but not many in the lower divisions. What's up with that? I saw a nice Gake last night on spike t.v.

Karo used Ouchi in his fight against Sanchez....
(as well as Uchi-Mata and Harai-Goshi)

Fedor uses Ouchi and Kouchi alot.

heck I think fricking rampage tried to throw Ouchi in his last fight against Eastman, I watched and, it went "holy shit did rampage just throw ouchi?!"

dont have a replay or anything so I cant confirm, but it looked like he was going for it.

Also, Saku vs Newton, Newton attacks with a Kosoto gake and gets Uchi-mata'd by Saku.

They are nice throws; it's a wonder you don't see them more often.

Randy Couture uses the inner and outer reaps alot. Technically it's called a wrestling inside/outside trip but they're both pretty much the same thing.

Umm yes and no...

He hasnt officially retired...

But I think in his last fight, or shortly before his last fight in training he had brain injuries, or serious problems with his brain. I might be wrong though. The man went through hell in the ring, and never refused to fight anyone, even though he was really a 185'er.

He's got 3 fights and 3 brutal losses to Wanderlei Silva, a loss to crocop, a loss to Arona.

He's also beat Rampage, Ken Shamrock, Renzo Gracie, Royler Gracie,Royce Gracie, Vitor Belfort, Carlos Newton, among others.

He's a mma legend, but for his own safety I personally dont hink he should be fighting anymore.

I agree with you. He's proven himself to be a good fighter but he's starting to get old. He should retire before he seriously injures himself.

I'd just like to leach off this thread a little bit and ask if the inner reap is performed with the toes pointed towards the ground when you're about to reap the leg for ouchi gar.

Isn't his primary style, Judo?

I wonder what technique he got hurt with? Kick or punch probably a roundhouse kick?

For good form I would say yes, but for combat I would say anyway you can get it.

Hardball, Inner reap is ouchi and kouchi gari.

Major and minor inner reap.

Uchi-Mata is a inner thigh throw, and while I agree some say you "reap" with the leg. I think he's talking about ouchi and kouchi.

BjjExpertise, if your throwing Ouchi Gari, its really up to personal preference. Some people will hook the leg behind the knee cap.
(Just to clarify it isnt their heel behind the knee cap, its usually the calf muscle or in some cases, the back of their knee cap is against the back of your kneecap. Usually calf in my experience)

Some will keep their toes pointed at the floor (barely barely off of it) and do a small circular motion.

Others are somewhat in between (thats where I fit in).

My foot is usually about 3 or 4 inches off the ground, and I find I pull with my heel against the back of their foot, in the circular motion.

About halfway through the circle, I seem to point my toes downward ( just did a little test), but I have been known to through it other ways.
